About

artsy / crafty

When I first found Etsy I was really interested in trying my hand at sewing; I set up shop at Etsy in 2009 and started by selling small zipper pouches made from fabrics that I had bought second hand. I was greatly inspired by The Dainty Squid who I came across on Etsy but I was nowhere near as talented.

Once my interest for sewing slowly disappeared, I wanted to try something else and chose jewelry making as the next hobby. I made some items to just test the waters, and when I realised they were starting to sell, I decided to make more. Gradually I started to better plan the jewelry that I made and come up with different kinds of jewelry and I also started trying out new materials. In between making jewelry, I also added recycled do-it-yourself style studded denim shorts into the shops inventory, but I quickly lost interest in upcycling denim pants.

When I went abroad for university, I didn't close the shop but made a lot of items beforehand and left my mother in charge of shipping. I literally couldn't have kept the shop going for those three years without her help, she was great! She likes to knit in her spare time and mittens made by her have been for sale in the shop as well; it always made her laugh with joy when someone purchased them!

There have been times when I have thought about closing the shop and have even talked about it, but hearing from my customers that they love the jewelry they've got from me is one of the nicest feelings and keeps me coming back to the hobby and the shop.
