Announcement   We are currently living in temporary accommodation while our house undergoes some repair work following major water damage.

During this time we will be unable to offer any of our 'bulk' listings of sea pottery. We will be adding fewer listings too (unless it's a 'fresh' catch), as the bulk of our collection is also in storage.

Thanks for your patience!

Welcome to Scottish Beach Finds selling authentic sea glass and sea pottery found on the beautiful, wild beaches of Scotland (and sometimes England).

My two boys, Hamish (8) and Finlay (7), love to walk and explore the many beaches here. We collect many interesting beach finds, so I've set up this shop mainly for them and their future adventures...

Each piece is unique and untouched - I do not drill holes in my supplies as I don't want to limit their uses.

These treasures are perfect for jewellers and collectors and often date back well over 100 years.

Shards are priced due to their rarity and also take into consideration any overheads, e.g. we live 180 miles from Seaham so there are costs involved in finding these beautiful shards.

Shipping is available to all countries.

We accept Paypal & Etsy Gift Cards.

If there's anything specific you're trying to source from a beach, please let me know in case I can help. We know this coastline extremely well (I grew up here) and frequently cover a span of approximately 30/40 miles.

Any queries please just get in touch.

Many thanks.

About

How Scottish Beach Finds Began...

I grew up in Fife (on the east coast of Scotland) which has a beautiful, rugged and varied coastline. I moved to Edinburgh at 17 to study Drawing & Painting and spent 12 happy years there before returning to Fife with my young family about 6 years ago. My husband and I wanted our boys to grow up by the sea and felt it important that they develop a strong connection with the outdoors.

During our time here we have rediscovered and explored approximately thirty miles of the Fife coastline and have found a number of beautiful and interesting beaches – each with its own characteristics and unique mixture of treasures. The various finds available at each site reflect the local geography and the socio-economic history of the communities along the coast. It is amazing how different two beaches only a mile or two apart can be.

Such is the pleasure of beachcombing that we try to make it a daily occurrence.
An average trip to the beach would typically last between one and three hours, unless it is a particularly glorious day or an unusually fertile beach.

We enjoy beachcombing as a whole family and will often build our weekend days around a trip to one or more beaches. We have many to choose from within one hour of home and the children will often suggest a specific beach for us to visit.

Part of the joy of collecting is the sheer variety of what can be found. Each piece is unique and has a genuine sense of its own story about it. Of course some types and colours of glass are rarer than others and it is always exciting to spot a piece of red glass on the beach – especially if it is a flawless or unusual shape. Bottle stoppers and marbles are a great joy to find and the boys in particular will measure the success of a trip in terms of whether they have found one or not.

The shop began as a leisure pastime- a means to save for our sons’ future adventures - but has steadily grown over the past six years as a business.

I believe there’s a desire in all of us to forage and our online shop has provided a platform not only to indulge this passion, but to allow us the freedom to spend as much time as we desire doing it, as it more than pays for itself. It is lovely to think our children make the connection that work needn’t be something you don’t enjoy, and that it’s possible to make choices about work/life balance.

Our shop has been a good tool to teach the boys about the value of things, how it’s possible with a little imagination to create ‘something out of nothing’ essentially, and how it’s possible to find beauty in discarded objects and breathe new life into them giving them a sense of worth once more. This is important, we feel, especially in a society which is largely driven by ‘single use’ consumerism.

When I was growing up my mother (who is a writer) worked from home. I loved her always being there and made a decision early on that I would stay at home for those precious early years if possible with my two children. Being able to sell our foraged finds has allowed our family this freedom – without these gifts from the sea this dream may not have been possible.

Payment
We accept Paypal & Etsy Gift Cards.

Payment for the item should be received within 3 days of purchase. If you require more time please get in touch to let me know.

You do not need a PayPal Account to pay for your items through PayPal:

You can choose the PayPal Option during checkout. After you submit your order click the "Pay Now" button. Scroll Down and you will see the option to pay with a Credit or Debit Card WITHOUT having to sign up for a PayPal account. It is a secure site.

Payment must be made in full and have cleared before the item is shipped.

If you are having issues with PayPal or any other aspect of the transaction, please do not hesitate to contact me. I will work with you to accommodate your needs.
Shipping
Orders ship within 2-3 business days of cleared payment received. I often dispatch on the same day.

Within the UK shipping is via 1st class Royal Mail and delivery estimate is 1-2 days.

Outside the UK shipping is via Airmail, this typically takes:

- To Europe 3 to 5 working days
- To USA 7 - 10 working days, though often swifter.
- Elsewhere - please contact me for delivery estimate.

Airmail is the cheapest form of postage but is not trackable. I use this form of postage to keep costs lower for customers. The next cheapest form of postage (which is tracked) is Airsure, which they charge £5 extra for on top of postage, regardless of the weight. Should you require a faster postal service (which is tracked) or insurance please contact me for a quote before purchasing.

Royal mail will not consider an item lost until 30 days after posting. If your item has not arrived in 30 days, I will refund you order. In the last 5 years (with approximately 2000 sales) only one item has been 'lost' in the post. A small handful have taken longer to arrive than the stated 7 - 10 working days, but have got there in the end.

It is not my intention to profit from postage and packaging and will always try to refund any overspend of £1 or more.

I will happily combine postage to keep costs as low as possible.

Please be sure to enter your correct shipping address for purchases. In the event that Etsy and Paypal show two different addresses, your package will be shipped to the Etsy address.
Refunds and Exchanges
If you are dissatisfied with your order for any reason please contact me within 5 working days of receiving your item. I will do my best to resolve the problem quickly. Refunds and exchanges are taken on a case-by-case basis.

All items are sent out in perfect condition, packed securely and must be returned in the same condition within 7 days of contacting me (or upon receipt).

Shipping charges cannot be refunded.
