About

Animal Stuff for Animal People: Pet Themed Stationery And Gifts That Benefit Animals In Need

I started Scrappy Rat Designs as a way to combine my love of animals with my other love, writing. I wanted to provide pet lovers a stationery shop that carries cards and notebooks, bookplates and gift tags, small gifts and more.

It's the perfect place to find something special for the animal nut in your life, like your friend who takes her dog absolutely *everywhere*, or your vegan in-laws, your pet sitter who always goes above and beyond, the trainer who taught your dog to stop standing on the dining room table, your favorite vet who's always got a pocket full of cat treats, your sister who feeds a feral cat colony, or your boyfriend whose spare bedroom doubles as a shelter for the foster rats he picks up from the pound to find a special home for each and every one.

It's also full of things to indulge yourself in, and even some stuff to adorn your pets with. I hope you'll come in and browse. I'm always adding something new!

You can feel good about shopping at Scrappy Rat Designs because every single purchase benefits animal rescue. I donate 50% from the sale of every item in my shop which adds up pretty quickly, but there are also designated items you can find throughout the shop with up to 100% of their price donated to animal rescue/advocacy. How can you go wrong with that? One of those items is my Yummy for Dogs Cookbook for Canines! It's got nearly 100 pages of healthy, vegan dog treat recipes your dog will love!

Which charities do the donations benefit? Every two months I choose an animal rescue or advocacy organization to raise donations for via my sales during that period. Plus, in May 2014 I opened up two new sections of my shop to benefit Grey2K USA (helping greyhounds exploited by the racing industry) and Bat World Sanctuary, two groups I really love that do so much to help animals, I chose to give them continuing support throughout the year.

July/August's charity is Ratbones Rat Terrier Rescue, helping these great little dogs via foster care, vet treatment, and of course, helping them find their forever homes.

May/June's charity was Triangle Rabbits, who received $50 to help homeless bunnies become happy house rabbits. In addition, Rescue Dog Networking Agents received $22 in merchandise for their rescue auction fund raiser.

March/April's charity was Operation Catnip. Thanks to everyone who made a purchase, they received $81!

January/February 2016's charity was East Tennessee Give-a-Heart Rat Rescue and with your help we raised $65! We also adopted three more bats from Bat World Sanctuary this month with $85 in donations.

2015 was our highest year of cash and in-kind donations yet with a total of $879!

2014 again beat last year's donation total! Thanks to you and your purchases, Scrappy Rat Designs was able to give $847 in cash and in-kind donations!

2013 nearly doubled 2012's donations! Thanks to your purchases, my shop earned donations totalling $619 for animal rescue and advocacy groups, not counting the gift baskets and other in-kind donations of merchandise to fundraisers for groups like A New Leash on Life rescue.

2012 was a record year for donations! Added up, Scrappy Rat Designs donated a total of $332.50 plus many gift baskets and other items donated directly to rescues for their own fundraising efforts. Looking forward to what this year will bring!

In 2011, Scrappy Rat Designs donated a total of $280, plus many gift baskets of my handmade items as requested by rescue groups for their fundraising raffles and auctions.

Welcome to Scrappy Rat Designs! If you love animals, you've found your stationer. I am happy to provide you with quality cards, bookmarks, book plates and other stationery items to make answering your mail a pleasure.

What makes Scrappyrat Designs animal-friendly? It's always great to find positive images of pets of all kinds, including the ones often met with "ick" from the general public, but in addition to that, Scrappy Rat Designs regularly donates pendants, stationery sets, and gift baskets to auctions, sales, and other activities that benefit animals via rescue and advocacy. Plus, you can rest assured that all items produced by Scrappyrat Designs are made by an entirely plant-powered artist to produce fun items with an important message, while causing the least harm to animals and the environment possible. No animal products will ever be used to produce my creations.

I have a deep devotion to the art of postal beauty, as well as a tenacious love of animals. I have participated in the leisurely pleasure of letter writing since I was a child, and have participated in animal rescue and advocacy throughout my adult life. My goal is to combine the two in a way that makes them as meaningful to others as they are to me. I hope you will join me in this devotion by sending my little creations far and wide.
