Art is a Journey
My Etsy shop was opened in 2010, after a trip to continental Europe. I visited the classical 'Grand Tour' destinations of Paris, Rome, Florence and Berlin on a solo journey to see art in situ and experience each of these historic cities. I realised early on that it was more recent art, in particular that of the Post-Impressionists such as Van Gogh and Gauguin that fired my imagination and excited me. I was drawn to the partial abstraction and the colours. This freed
up some time that I spent wandering backstreets and off the tourist routes and discovered wonderful details and buildings that I captured on camera.
Arriving home, I couldn't wait to use those pictures to create my own work. This resulted in a group of detailed pen and watercolour drawings of various buildings from this journey plus a previous trips to Amsterdam and Cincinnati. Distinctive for their fine penmanship and delicate use of colour. I also created my first oil paintings from pictures from a trip to central Norway in winter. Both were well received not only by customers on Etsy but with private sales locally.
After a 3 year hiatus due to work and illness, I am now beginning to work on a new body of work. My main project is British rural and urban landscapes in oils of various sizes. However, work with a new art group is encouraging me to experiment with new media and so it is likely that I will also be presenting work based around smaller projects utilising sculpture, collage, digital photography and mixed media.
The shop's reopening is tentatively planned for late in 2014.
I've been drawing since I could hold a crayon. I live in eastern Scotland but have traveled and lived around the rest of the UK, Europe plus the US and China. This love of places and spaces features heavily in my work. Benny, my dog, oversees all.
My aim is to provide customers with prompt, polite service and have my work quickly delivered to you in perfect condition to enjoy yourself or as a gift.
