Announcement   I began making light sculptures because I wanted to create something that’s unique, and organic. In a world where most products roll off molds, I feel it is important to keep my sculptures free flowing, random, and spontaneous.

For a natural focus, I use organic materials such as bent reed, handmade paper extracted from wild and garden plants, and found objects such as leaves and feathers. With this process, the light diffuses through my work in a much more natural way, highlighting all those wonderful imperfections found in the materials nature creates.

A wonderful and talented artist as well as great customer service. The item had sadly arrived damaged and although still beautiful sculptedlight quickly took steps to correct or replace the problem. A highly recommended seller, and all of her pieces are beautiful. Keep up the amazing work!

About

Handmade Paper Light Sculpture

My inspiration to create formed during my time as an art director in major advertising agencies. I enjoyed the challenge of applying my creativity to branding products, but was uncomfortable with my roll in mass production.

Perhaps my art is a reaction against my earlier career. After selling efficiency and uniformity, my pieces have evolved towards a more natural focus. The forms are free flowing, random, and spontaneous. I don't pre plan or work from a sketch. I enjoy the process of jumping straight in and playing with the materials — bending it this and that — allowing it to become the shape it wants to become.

The materials I choose to create my sculptures are inspired by observing how animals create their homes. Full of creativity and ingenuity, basic materials found within their living environment are converted into functional dams, nests, and hives.

Over the years, my backyard has become the source for my materials. Dogwood is used to form the skeleton for my light sculptures. Plants used for papermaking are grown for their fibers. Flowers and leaves are picked, pressed, and added to my sculptures as inclusions. With this process, the light diffuses through my work in a much more natural way, highlighting all those wonderful imperfections found in the materials nature creates.
