About

When I realized that my small sculpture were of a scale that could be worn as jewelry, my shop, sculpturetowear, was born.

I make small sculpture of the human body, pieces that are light enough in weight that they can be worn comfortably as jewelry: rings, pendants, brooches, earrings. My things are all cast in metal using the lost-wax-casting process. I make them in wax and then they are cast into bronze, sterling silver, shibuichi* and gold. The pieces are cast at Outcast & Co. in Seattle, WA, USA. I design and make the wax figures, choose the metal, do the metal finishing and, at the end of the process, photograph the finished pieces. The staff at Outcast also makes molds of some of my sculpture.
My main tools are a small torch fueled by denatured alcohol and a sewing needle glued into a wooden handle. I make the little fingers, for example, by pulling and building the wax in increments with the heated needle until finally achieving the shape of a finger. It is meticulous work and demands attention and patience, skills I've learned over time. An LED lamp with a round magnifying lens helps me see what I'm doing.
I ship anywhere in the world and love the international contact that etsy facilitates. I use the US Postal Service and normally ship via First Class Mail. All shipments are tracked and insured. Shipping is free in the USA and is $5.00 to other countries.
I do custom orders.

*Shibuichi is a blend of copper and silver. It apparently originated in Japan and was used to make decorative metal attachments to weapons and armor. Now it is used to make jewelry.
