Nice stationary. They said their turnaround was 13 days but it took over a month to receive it. I messaged them asking for an eta. She said it would be shipped out the following week... It didn't ship until the week after that. This was a (late) gift for my good friend.

About

Making a Living by Making

When it comes to letterpress printing, we’re pretty old school - like a few hundred years old school. We print the same way that the printers in Mainz, Germany did way back in the 15th century - we set each word in metal type, letter by letter, then print everything one at a time on our small hand-powered press. We work this way to stay connected to the heritage of our craft and to the materials we use.

The letterpress printing process has quirks that we love - some of the letters in our antique fonts might have a slight nick in them, or the ink coverage might be slightly uneven in a large solid area of color. These things make each printed piece unique and provide a welcome contrast to the flashy digital perfection that surrounds us on a daily basis. We connect our work with the Japanese aesthetic of wabisabi - the appreciation of imperfection. When you hold one of our printed pieces, you’re reminded that it was crafted slowly, with a pair of human hands (and a little bit of help from an old press!).

Letterpress is more to us than pushing a piece of metal onto a sheet of paper. It's about a connection. A connection to the past and the future - we can use ultra-modern fonts while printing the same way that Gutenberg, or his 11th century Chinese predecessors did. We can use centuries-old crafts traditions while running a business that upholds a strong commitment to low-impact sustainability. We can connect with people on Etsy from all over the world via the technology of the internet while printing with a centuries-old process. And, of course, we can help connect two people who we've never even met when one sends a piece of stationery to another.

We hope to help you connect with far-away friends, make an everyday note special, and create special pieces for your wedding that will be treasured for years to come.

➜ There are no refunds for an impression that isn't deep enough - as we say below, we carry on a tradition of craft printing from centuries past and print with soft metal type. Deep impressions are only available with disposable plastic plates. If you're looking for a letterpress piece that focuses on deep impressions, we aren't the shop for you.

➜ There is a 25% non-refundable charge for each order to account for proof-making and design work.

Frequently asked questions

What is letterpress printing?

Letterpress printing is a type of relief printing, which means a raised surface - in our case, metal type and images - is covered in ink and pressed onto a sheet of paper. This creates a slightly textured surface with crisp printed edges.

Will my finished piece have a deep impression?

We use lead type and images - like the printers of yore - so we don't print with a deep impression. If we did, our type would be ruined! Lead type is very soft. Some modern printers create extremely deep impressions - this is only practical when using digitally-created plastic plates. We're proud to be one of the few commercial shops around to carry on the tradition of craft printing.

Where's my proof?

We send the proof to the email address you have registered with Etsy within one working day. Please note that "one working day" does not include weekends (Saturday & Sunday). If you haven't received your proof and think that you should have, just send us a message and we'll be happy to resend it!

Do you do rush orders?

We're happy to do rush orders, provided our schedule allows for it! Our standard rush is 7 business days from proof approval and costs an additional 25% and an optional express shipping upgrade fee. To place a rush order, please contact us before ordering so we can make sure our schedule allows for your order.

Do you ship overseas?

We ship to any country in the world! For all overseas orders, we ship USPS First Class mail. The estimated delivery time for international orders is 1-8 weeks. Customs delays vary from destination to destination, can be lengthy, and are difficult to predict. We're always happy to upgrade you to a quicker shipping method if you like. All international customers are responsible for customs / VAT / import taxes. Contact your local customs office if you have questions about import tax rates.

I already have a design and artwork - will you print my piece?

Since we aren't a job printing studio, we only print our own designs. However, we'd be happy to work with you to come up with custom pieces that use the fonts and images we have!

Where do you get your supplies?

We are firm supporters of other small, family-owned businesses, especially those who are based in and manufacture in the USA. We also strive to purchase materials and packaging from suppliers who practice ecologically sound manufacturing processes.

We think you care about our suppliers, too, so we're happy to share them with you --- please visit this link for details: http://www.seabornpress.com/faq

How will you ship my order?

We ship USPS for domestic and international customers. All domestic mail is shipped with insurance and tracking information. There is an estimated delivery of 2-5 business days to the US, 7-21 business days for International delivery, not including any unforeseen customs delays. If you need your item sooner, we can upgrade you to Express Mail (overnight to many US locations) - just contact us before you pay. All orders come with delivery confirmation, so you'll be able to track your package right to your door! Shipping does not take place until we have received your payment. We ship to whichever address you have listed with Etsy, which we also list on the proof sent to you before printing.

Will there be import taxes or VAT?

International customers are responsible for customs and import fees due upon arrival. We have no control over these charges and cannot predict what they may be. Customs policies vary from country to country - you should contact your local customs office for questions regarding import fees. International orders must have full value declared on customs forms as per USPS regulations.

What's your turnaround time?

** Please note, our shop will be closed August 10-15 - any orders placed after July 22nd will have those additional 4 days of turnaround time added to them. Thank you for your understanding! **
