Jamie's design from my photograph of the White Mountains captured my thoughts and vision. This was a gift for my friend who promoted to CDR in the United States Navy. Thank you, Jamie.

About

Seeing in Fabric is textile art through the eyes and hands of Jamie Langhoff and her 1968 Singer sewing machine

I began creating my own version of fabric applique artwork in 2004. At first, I began creating fabric applique "wearable art" on t-shirts and sweatshirts. My work was very popular, but because of the price point of t-shirts, I was always having to limit my creative potential. After 5 years of making wearable art, I was totally burnt out! Part of me wanted to evolve the format into wall art instead, but I had absolutely NO idea where to start. Plus, being burnt out, I really needed a break!

I decided instead to focus on finishing my Bachelor's degree in Philosophy.

Then I decided to explore the world of organic farming.

Then I decided to move to a city, because I craved a more exciting, urban lifestyle. I chose Washington D.C. because it is very small I fell in love with the intricate details of the early 20th century "Row Houses" in the residential neighborhoods.

In early 2011, after nearly 3 years of being on hiatus from any kind of textile, fabric, or sewing of any kind, I began re-exploring my fabric applique work, but in a different way. I began creating wall art.

It was so scary at first, but I fell in love with the process of creating fabric art all over again!

Ever since I made the decision to create to "textile wall art," my process has grown exponentially!

And I am still growing and changing and evolving!

It feels like every single time I create a new piece of artwork, I am trying something different, challenging myself in a new way.
