Seraphin Station

Buyers are raving!

This shop got multiple 5-star reviews in the past 7 days.

Announcement    5/28/21: Most of the chaos has settled. Turns out my apps/software weren't talking to each other properly - the message backlog is pretty bad. I'm working on getting caught up now.

4/16: It has NOT STOPPED RAINING. Internet is excruciatingly slow.

4/13/21: As of this afternoon, I have (somewhat) reliable internet again for the first time since March 23rd. The backlog on messages and anything requiring more than a little thumb-typing via cell phone is considerable but I'm working on getting caught up. More details at blog: seraphinstation.wordpress.com

4/6/21: status update, delays. still no internet. then kitchen sink faucet exploded this morning and flooded the kitchen. pretty sure i'm not gonna get caught up today. Truly sorry. Follow blog at seraphinstation.wordpress.com, or visit Facebook, for ongoing updates/details.

3/25/21: Internet has been unreliable all week due to weather and just about impossible to use when it will finally connect. I'm doing what I can by phone but it's slowing me way down and I'm definitely behind on messages and orders involving custom work that need messages to be exchanged. Regular updates on stuff like this are always posted to blog and social media, just FYI.

Note:

[*]This is real, traditional, Southern, rural-style American rootwork. It is *not* pagan. It is *not* Wiccan. It is *not* Vodou or Santeria. These are all completely distinct things, and the correspondences, theories, and systems are *not* always compatible.

Since hoodoo rootwork has absolutely exploded in popularity over the last few years, you can't always know for sure whether the place you're getting your supplies online is really making hoodoo formulas that they understand and are familiar with, or if they're just using well-known hoodoo names for formulas that don't make any sense at all within a hoodoo context.

And it is *completely possible* to find a recipe for domination oil out there, for instance, that not only would not do the job in your hoodoo domination altar work, it could *actively undermine or efface it.* And some folks are using those recipes to make stuff and sell it, and they're calling it hoodoo, and honey, it just ain't.

So be assured that I stick to the good old-fashioned stuff I grew up around, the stuff I've been using professionally for 35 years and making myself for 18. I explain how things fit and what the deal is with my products so you can be confident you're getting what you're looking for and not some mix-and-match BS.

This is what I do. It's my spiritual calling and my means of making a living, and I take it *very* seriously and do a great deal of educating about it. You can read more about all of this at my bio on the seraphinstation.com website and read tons of articles I've written over the years at my blog at bigluckyhoodoo.com.

About SeraphinStation

Sales 307
On Etsy since 2020

New name but the same handmade, traditional spiritual supplies since 2002.

We’re a couple of artists, aging ex-punk-rockers, and spiritual seeker types who rather unexpectedly found ourselves trying to farm, homestead, and raise animals in the rural Deep South, just outside the bayou on the edge of Alabama.

Prior to that, Mike had been a framer, a roofer, a handyman, a cabinet maker, a graphic designer, and a painter. I’d been a university English teacher, a freelance writer and editor, and a creator of handmade spiritual supplies, art, and jewelry under the banner Karma Zain Spiritual Supplies.

After an extended period of crappy employers/clients, family and household crises, and mechanical and medical emergencies, we found ourselves moving out of the suburbs without having a place to move *to.*

We looked pretty bad on paper, not too appealing to landlords and utility companies. But we eventually got a roof over our heads. We had to build it ourselves, and it covered a one-room cabin, but at least we could stand up in our “living room” again. But we basically were gonna need a miracle to be able to move into a real house again.

We eventually got one. It involved our managing, recovering, and improving a ten-acre farm that had been neglected and overgrown for over a decade. We didn't know the first thing about how to do any of this, of course, but we figured it was a great time to learn new things and hang onto this with both hands.

This shop showcases some of what we create out here at Seraphin Station, our farm/studio/home. It ranges from the eminently practical (bookshelves and chicken coops) to the deliciously, defiantly impractical (mala beads made with wild-gathered / foraged animal bones; a spiritual petition or prayer woven into a silk ribbon to be hung by your door).

Mike is a practicing Buddhist, so we lay fencing, but we also cut walking meditation paths around some of our venerable trees. I’m a folklore junkie, rootworker, spiritual advisor, and vodouisant, so we grow vegetables, but we also grow herbs used in traditional regional folk medicine and folk magic. We believe in conjure, kindness, and creativity, and we make stuff to help ourselves and others live lives with more of all of these in it.

Seraphin Station is also the new home of my line of traditional, authentic Southern-style hoodoo rootwork formulas and products that you could find at Karma Zain Spiritual Supplies until 2015. You can read more about me and my background/education as a rootworker and spiritual advisor here: https://bigluckyhoodoo.wordpress.com/about-karma-zain/

  • Karma Zain

    Owner

Half of the human component of Seraphin Station (the half that will type things on the internet and plan listings). In charge of everything except the woodworking and Buddhist stuff.

  • Mike

    Maker

The other half of the human component of Seraphin Station (the half that will build things that will stand up and be sturdy). In charge of most of the tools and all the Buddhist stuff. Is unlikely to type things here or elsewhere.

  • Sonia

    Assistant, Customer Service

  • Roo

    Shipper

Barking and jumping 4 feet into the air when she's excited, hence her name. Inspects all incoming and outgoing mail in case it's hiding any nibbles. Pictured here in my desk chair because she thinks she's people. Doesn't type worth a poop.

  • Hi Top

    Marketer

Our mascot and the face of our mailing list campaign. Wants to know if you have any mealworms.

  • Glenn

    Designer

Glenn, our frizzled bantam rooster, is named for Glenn Danzig because he acts 6' tall and bulletproof and he just... isn't. Contributes to most of our formulas and items that call for black chicken feathers. Definitely a rock star.
