The Serious Scoop

I've always been a bit of a hoarder of vintage media, particularly books with detailed, interesting, and/or strange illustrations. After cleaning out an old herbarium several years ago, I found myself in possession of a number of old textbooks which captivated me with their black and white illustrations of microscopic organisms, structures and scientific paraphernalia.

I wanted a way to display these images in my home, but didn't want to destroy the originals; cutting up a book is sacrilege! So I started experimenting with image transfer techniques to display my favorite images on various substrates. Tumbled tile was one of my favorite materials to work with. The surface imperfections complemented the vintage subject matter, and could be used to make functional items.

On a whim, I listed my mitosis coasters on my Etsy page and was pleasantly surprised by the positive response. It was a creative enterprise that kept me sane and fed through the last few years of my Ph.D.

I have spent several years experimenting with different media and techniques, constantly striving to improve the quality of my product My current process and materials result in the highest quality product to date.

After a year-long hiatus, I am very excited to reopen my store as of July 2017 and make this new and improved product available to my customers.

The following items can't be returned or exchanged
Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
  • Custom or personalized orders
  • Perishable products (like food or flowers)
  • Digital downloads
  • Intimate items (for health/hygiene reasons)
Returns and exchange details
1) GO TO Your Account > Purchases. Locate the order in question and click the "Request Cancellation" link towards the right. This will notify me of your request. Please provide me with the reason for your request.

2) If I have not shipped the order, I will refund you entire payment, including shipping fees.

3) If I have shipped the order, you will need to return it to me in the mail. Once received, I will refund you payment total minus shipping costs.

I attempt to take detailed pictures and provide accurate, detailed descriptions of my work. Therefore, I ask you to consider the following questions before asking for a refund:
1) Does the item look significantly different than the photo?
2) Was the item damaged?
3) Was the item significantly different than the description?

If the answer is YES to any of the above, I may provide a refund. Please contact me through Etsy with information about your problem, and I will consider issuing a refund, minus any shipping fees. Refund requests must me made within 15 days of the order submission.

It is the buyer's responsibility to return refunded items to me in the mail, in the same type of packaging in which it was received.
Credit cards accepted through Etsy checkout. Standard sales tax of 6% is added to orders made by Kentucky residents.

*Christmas Delivery is guaranteed by the USPS for all domestic Priority Mail orders mailed on or by the 20th, in the US. By placing your order on or by the 15th, I am agreeing to ship your order on or before the 20th.

I now ship worldwide! Time to ship varies by item, as indicated in listing. additional time for delivery. All coasters ship USPS Priority mail, which is 2-3 business day delivery in the US lower 48, 6-10 business days internationally. Magnets and jewelry ship USPS First class, which is 3-5 day delivery in the US lower 48. Seller will not be held liable for later than expected delivery dates due to postal service handling.

If you need a rush order please contact me. An order is considered a "rush order" if it must ship sooner than date specified in listing. Certain rush orders
may be subject to additional fees.

I pack all my orders carefully in bubble wrap, but sometimes accidents still happen! If you receive a damaged order, please photograph the damage, including any damage to the shipping container. In most cases, I will promptly send you a replacement. If I am not able to replace the item, I will refund your full payment.

**RESHIPPING REPLACEMENT ORDERS** Although I insure all orders, USPS insurance will not cover shipping costs of damaged orders. This, I reserve the right to use whatever method is most economical to reship your replacement. Buyer may request a shipping upgrade at their expense.

My standard international shipping method for my coasters is USPS Flat Rate Priority Mail International. This is by far the most economical option available, but does NOT come with a guaranteed delivery date. Though, this option comes with package tracking, it does not always get tracked once it leaves the US. The following countries have delivery confirmation with USPS, so you should be able to track your package within your country. If your country is NOT on this list, there will most likely be no way to track your package once it leaves the US.

USPS Priority Mail International (my standard, and the most economical shipping option) has an estimated delivery time of 6-10 days. However, the actual delivery time frame may be *considerably* longer. This is generally an issue of customs clearance. You may be able to locate your package once it arrives in your country by contacting your local customs authority in your country and attempting to locate the package with the tracking number provided to you with your order. There is no
guarantee of a specific delivery date.

Private carriers such as UPS, DHL and FedEx will be much quicker, and have money back-guarantees that items will be received by certain deadlines, but also much more expensive than USPS.

USPS Priority Mail Express International is another shipping option that is likely to get the package INTO your country faster (about 3-5 days) than Priority Mail International. But customs clearance is likely to increase delivery time. If you live in one of the following countries, you can receive a guaranteed delivery time (with money-back guarantee) with USPS Priority Mail Express International. This shipping method varies with location, but is likely to be about $60 USD for a single 4 coaster set.

e. Germany.
f. Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
g. Hong Kong.
h. Israel.
i. Japan.
j. New Zealand.

With USPS GLOBAL Express Guaranteed it may be possible to get your package in as little as 1-3 days, but you should be prepared to spend at least $90 USD for this service.

Some countries charge import taxes, customs clearance fees, or other fees on imported goods. IT IS THE BUYERS RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY ANY AND ALL SUCH FEES.

Once I have mailed a package, I have no control over its handling and delivery. If a delivery service with a date-specific money back guarantee has been used to deliver the product, I will use money received from USPS shipping refund to reimburse buyer of shipping costs only. In all other circumstances, I am NOT liable for shipping delays, or associated costs.

Please understand this means I do not make any promises about international delivery times, except when a special service with a guaranteed delivery date has been used. USPS Priority Mail International, my standard shipping method for international orders, DOES NOT INCLUDE A DELIVERY DATE GUARANTEE.

As stated previously, buyers are responsible for all customs fees and taxes charged by their country.

Additionally, order cancellations are not possible once an item has shipped.

Cancellation requests made before this are generally accepted, unless special materials have already been purchased (as in the case of custom orders).

Refund of merchandise costs are issued at the discretion of the seller, and the buyer must cover return shipping costs. Refund requests made on the basis of broken merchandise must be accompanied by a verbal description of the damage and photographic evidence of damage. Custom orders can not be returned for a refund unless they are not to buyer specifications, as agreed prior to order finalization.
