Before I created Sew Kreative by Kathryn, I made that full circle in my work career, always loving what I was doing, but not quite getting to where I felt I needed to be. I have always dabbled with sewing, embroidery, quilting as a side business, working in off season to my regular job.

I had learned about Etsy a few years before from a fabric vendor. I took a look, started creating, and listing items. Then I had my first sale, a pillowcase. Then I had another sale, and another, and sew on. All while I was selling real estate full time. Busy. I tested different products. Some succeeded, some failed. It turns out, determining what to sell was more challenging that I originally thought.

Then one day I just told my DH that I had way too much invested in equipment, supplies, training, etc., for this to continue to be a hobby. I had to either liquidate inventory, or go full speed, full time, to build my business. So, I worked for over a year on my business, then DH had a career change and asked me to run the office. Well, I did so, reluctantly, because it put me on hold, again. And, I am not a full time bookkeeper sort of person. It was fun for a few months, then I began to hate it more and more. I was simply out of my element. I knew where I needed to be – – – home – – – creating quilts ! So, I did.

There is a long history of artists on my Mother’s side of the family. They were all painters. Not me, I need a sewing machine and thread to paint with. I had built a sewing machine business with little cash, from the ground up, when we lived in Arizona. Hard work, long hours, persistence. I knew I could do this again. This time I get to use my creative, artsy side. Working by myself, rocking out with my favorite tunes. Only the cats and dogs to distract me. I feel I am sort of channeling my grandmother, great grandmother, and great, great grandmother, and their talents. More on that later.

I decided to create quilted items primarily, especially since purchasing a long arm quilting machine. Build one quilt at a time focusing on quality workmanship. Creating handmade quilts. Doing it the old school way, but with computerized machinery to speed up the process. Bold colors and bright florals. My love for color has set me apart. Thanks to the grandmothers, I inherited their love of color. Beautiful large floral prints, simple quilt patterns, showcasing those gorgeous fabrics, and it was working. Every day is challenging. As consumers, we change our minds as quickly as ever. E-marketing has changed the way the world shops and makes purchases. Creating quilted items is fun for me. E-commerce is the biggest challenge. So, I continue to learn how and where to market on the internet.

Through it all, my quilts and other quilted items are finding their way into hundreds of homes. It is a huge thrill for me to package an item for shipping and print the shipping label. Goofy, I know. But, I grin as I walk to the mail box. Who knew !!! I sure didn’t.

Quilts represent home. Warmth. A treasure. An heirloom. Quilts have been made, by hand, for centuries, and passed through the generations. I have only a couple of quilts hand pieced by my great, great grandmother in the 1930’s. I hold them dear to my heart. I strive to create those heirlooms for you and your family. Even though they are made by machine, they still hold those same feelings, a gift to be treasured for years, a memory made from a loved one’s clothing, t-shirt quilts from the kids years in sports or music, etc.

It is with heartfelt love that I create these quilts to share with you. The testimonials I receive bring tears to my eyes. I am able to create something special and unique for families and people I have never met. It is a wonderful, full-filling feeling.

Kathy did an AMAZING job on our wedding quilt. I could not be HAPPIER! She answered all my questions(I had a lot), worked with me on the design, let me know if something couldn't work and we needed to make a change, and delivered a quilt beyond my expectations. It is so beautiful.

Lucille at work quilting. That is my long arm quilting machine. I supervise while she creates the perfect design for every quilt . Red, white, and black are as classic as baseball and apple pie.

Welcome to my shop. And, thank you for stopping by to take a look. You will find something a bit different in my shop. My quilts are not timid of color. My quilts are bold, with BOLD color schemes created by looking through paint chips, inspiration in nature, buildings, Native America, random guesses, and by putting together fabrics I love.
I came across the word BODACIOUS recently, this describes most of my quilts. definition:
bold, attractive, gutsy, brassy, spunky

My husband and I moved to Arizona in 1981. I fell in love with the southwest. The wide open spaces, diverse culture, vivid colors, spring flowers on the desert landscape. We spent most of our 24 years in Prescott, a mile above sea level, where we enjoyed all 4 seasons, mild winter weather was the best. I spent my work life in sales, and my hobby time at a sewing or embroidery machine. I became a Bernina sewing machine dealer in 1998. I learned more from my skilled customers than I ever imagined. During that time, I took quilting classes in my store, and became obsessed with quality fabric used for making quilts. I began to add 100% cotton fabric to my store. When the vendors came by with fabric samples, I was always attracted to large, bright, and colorful florals and blenders for coordinating.

My love of fabric includes leather, silk, batiks, hand dye fabrics, bold color, large floral patterns, striking fabric designs ~ and the opportunity to see what I can do with them. I like working with the classic patterns and turning them up a notch with lots of color.

I purchased a computerized long arm quilting machine in 2011. As I work with this machine, I feel it is a larger version of an embroidery machine. A fantastic way to apply all kinds of great quilting designs with the help of the computer guided machine. I am constantly learning more and better ways to facilitate the computer program, and adapting designs to my creations for you, the customers. I am fortunate to own a Gammill, and am a member of a creative group of long arm quilters, who inspire me to reach new heights in skill and technique.

I am a member of our local quilt guild, the oldest guild in OK. We make pillow cases for ConKerr Cancer, now Cases for Smiles. We make quilts for the Womens Shelter. We make Christmas stockings for the local food bank to fill for children for the holidays. I have made it a personal goal to make 6 queen size quilts for the womens shelter this year, and 12 pillow cases each month for the Cases for Smiles. I am fortunate to be at a point in life that I can work full time at my hobby, and do some good for those who need some help and smiles.

Please review my customers comments. Their words speak volumes. I strive to make each customer feel more than satisfied with the items they have purchased from me. Repeat business and good reviews are so important in this "handmade" marketplace.

I make a queen quilt for each niece or nephew when they marry. I make gifts for Mom as much as I can. She keeps my quilts on the guest beds in her home. My Mother-in-law is also a frequent recipient of quilted items and pillow cases. My husband has 1 t-shirt quilt and enough shirts for 5 or 6 more. My closet is full of art to wear clothing I have made over the years.

You can see many of my creations on my Facebook page. I keep a growing photo album there.

I have a huge stash of fabrics, please contact me with your request and we will see what we can create together.

THANKS for keeping me in stitches.
I'm sew happy, creating for my new best friends, whom I have never met before. Thanks for shopping with Sew Kreative by Kathryn

Hand made gifts are always appreciated by the recipient. I have given hand made gifts to others all my life. Many of those gifts remain in their homes for years and years and are treasured by those who received them. I want you to feel the satisfaction of giving a hand made gift. These gifts will show that you have put a lot of thought into the gift giving process by selecting something personal and unique.

Quality materials are used. Threads used include, but not limited to, Sulky, Isacord, Guterman, Metrosene, all top quality threads. Fabrics are all first quality, 100% cotton, linen, or denim, independent quilt shop quality fabrics. (There is a difference in fabric quality.) My quilts are meant to be used and laundered gently. No bleach. Pillow forms will not be included with decorative pillow covers. (too bulky too ship) I will note what size pillow form to purchase when your item is received.

I have owned and operated a retail Bernina sewing machine store, and a quilt shop. I also offered BabyLock sewing machines. All products are created on these machines, and where necessary, embroideries are digitized or manipulated with Artista and/or Palette software. Embroidery designs are used per copyright of the digitizer. Licensed embroidery designs such as Disney, Precious Moments, Warner Bros., etc., will not be sewn and sold per their licensing restrictions. Embroidery designs have been purchased from Embroideryonline.com, Amazing Designs, Cactus Punch, Loralie Designs, and others to be sewn and sold on these items. Quanity limitations apply in some cases, per the designer. Many embroidery designs have been digitized by me, and therefore, not restricted by use or sale.

I hope you will enjoy these items for years, as much as I enjoy creating them. Having recently reached the half century mark, I have determined that I will spend the rest of my life creating with my hands and sewing machines, something that makes me smile when I am in my studio creating.

While living in AZ., I created and sold many one-of-a-kind garments. I have made wedding dresses, special garments for a man confined to a wheel chair, band promotors, and taperstry vest for wives of several friends for Christmas. My parents and family are always willing recipients of my gifts, especially, my father, who has many one-of-a-kind vests relative to farming and cattle. I have been sewing since 8th grade and sewing has become my passion. I love creating with a needle and a thread, as long as a machine is powering the needle !!!! No hand work for me !

ENJOY ! and,
Thank you to all who enter Sew Kreative by Kathryn.
