About

Sewing Seeds By Selena

I've always enjoyed sewing, but never thought that I would be selling my creations. I grew up in a very poor family with lots of siblings, I felt the pressure even as a child of the lack of money. My dad was self employed at times and during the better times he was employed, my mom never worked outside of her domestic duties. I didn't think anyone self employed could ever support a family properly from my experience growing up. As a teen/ young adult I aspired to become a grade school teacher or artiest but stopped all that when I became a full time mom. I couldn't for the longest time figure out how to make time for creativity again with my new busy life taking care of my daughter and then son. In 2008 the recession began and I discovered etsy which lead to my renewed interest in sewing. Due to a lack of money and growing little ones the stage was set for something new to happen and that summer I open my etsy store selling slings, and skirts. It wasn't very successful, but each little bit I sold helped and always seemed to come when we needed it the most. Much to my surprise in 2012 my etsy shop took off after 3 hard years of building my inventory. I feel so happy having a creative outlet and at the same time helping to support my family. I love having a small business that allows me to stay at home, create and make a difference.
