Announcement    ♥ ♥ ♥ Welcome to our Etsy shop! ♥ ♥ ♥
At the end of March, it became evident that our lives were changed in a way that was beyond our control. Having sewing machines and systems in place, sewKimono decided to pivot and switch out our silks for cottons. Through the generous donations of funds and fabric from friends we were able to produce over 2000 3-layer masks that we provided at no charge to medical front liners, first responders and volunteer meal providers. We continue to make masks for those groups mentioned. We also decided to take cottons that we have collected over the years and make masks to sell on our website. Additionally, we put masks for sale with some of the fabric that was donated. The proceeds from sales of the latter go back into allowing us to provide and ship free masks to groups in need, the free mask project is now self-funding.

Inspired by Asian designs, sewKimono works with Japanese kimono fabrics as well as contemporary fabrics and various art medium textiles to produce items that are functional and fashionable. Thoughtfully made from Japanese vintage kimono, we are sure that you will find something for yourself or that special gift for that special someone.

Re-purposed from vintage Japanese kimono garments from the Showa period (1926 - 1989) and as early as from the Taisho period (1912-1926), each kimono is gently taken apart to produce an accessory, decor piece, another garment or work of art. We are fortunate to be working with such beautiful and well-preserved textiles.
