Please read policies before purchasing. polices can also be found at sewlovelybykelly/purchaseagreement . Fabric choice is VERY important and I'm always happy to help if you want to send me links before purchasing your fabric. A lot of lighter weight linens, silky and heavy fabrics do not work well for roman shades (see below).

I can provide white canvas or twill fabric and ribbon but most other times customers send their own fabric directly.

*****************************QUOTE REQUEST FORM********************
You may copy and paste this form in an email to me and fill it out with the correct info for your request if you'd like. It makes it easier for me so I know all of your details.

How many roman shades do you need?-

Inside or Outside Mount?-

Do they all have the same fabric?-

Blackout or regular Liner-

Finished sizes of shades you need (width x length in inches) include the extra inches you want added if doing an outside mount. If doing inside mount, you may wish to subtract 1/4 inch from the exact width. *I don't make shades over 58" wide* I will make the shades the exact size you give me. I don’t deduct or add to the size I’m given.

Do you need a ribbon border/trim? -

If so, what color?

State it will ship to?-

Please email me with any questions. I'll usually be able to reply within 24 hours.

TIME FRAME
It's about 8 weeks right now. I do anticipate this will get down to a 5 week wait time shortly. I do my best to get the orders out quickly and efficiently. I assure you you will get a beautiful custom product and it's worth the wait! :) As with many other custom items on the market (furniture etc) there is usually a wait for custom goods, especially when the demand is high and the price point is good. I will keep you updated on the progress as I go. Sew Lovely is a small business (Kelly and one seamstress only). Exact dates cannot be guaranteed (exact date that you will receive the shade). If you need to receive the item on an exact date, please email me before purchasing.

RETURNS
Since they are custom items, all sales are final. No refunds given. If ever an issue with fitting or size etc, I can easily fix if you send the shades back. Please read the fabric recommendations carefully, as sending the wrong type of fabric can affect the finished product. If you're unhappy with anything, I can fix it to your liking. Please let me know within 10 days if you need a fix. If the shade needs a fix due to giving me the wrong size initially, there will be a fee to fix the shade and shipping charges. If ever a part were to break on the shade, within 2 years, we can usually send you the part free of charge.

SHIPPING
All items are shipped USPS Priority mail. Tracking will be given on your order once the item ships. If ever your package were to be lost in transit by USPS, the insurance will cover the labor and shipping for the shades only and an average estimated cost for fabric. We cannot cover anymore than the estimated cost of the fabric and labor. Check back often with USPS tracking, since they do not update their system often. The packages are sent out the day of or the next day after the label is created. Often the package will say "pre-transit" but it was actually sent out. USPS does not always update the tracking system. Lost package claims can only be filed with USPS if the package is considered "lost" for over 30 days. Please let us know if you have not received the order no more than 2 weeks after the item says "shipped," so we can keep an eye on it.

FABRIC CHOICE

The best fabric for Roman shades is medium weight, 100% cotton screen printed on canvas/duck. Most photos in my shop use this material. It pleats the best.

I can provide some basic fabrics like canvas/twill. My white canvas is a soft white color (rather than a starch/pure white.)

Please send appropriate roman shade fabric. IF YOUR FABRIC IS SENT TO ME WITHOUT YOUR NAME UNDER MY NAME, YOUR ORDER MIGHT GET DELAYED, AS I WILL HAVE TO TRACK DOWN WHOSE FABRIC IT IS. A medium weight fabric that is from 7-9oz in weight is usually good. A similar weight and fiber content to most store bought drapes is usually good (basic cotton/drapery). I prefer customers send me their own fabric, rather than me choose it, just to be certain it's exactly what the customer wants (this includes solid white shade fabric)

Most light weight linen, silk, burlap, sheer, satin, light weight fabric do not work well for roman shades, as they hang looser and do not pleat as well. Quilting fabric doesn't work well, as it is too thin. If you're using linen, please make sure it is at least 12 oz in weight and a linen blend. Do not send us 100% linen. Linen fabric will be a little floppy and less defined. 100% Linen also does not sew as well as other fabrics, so the edges may not be as defined and wrinkles too easily. Linen may hang differently in two different homes due to the humidity and environment and also shrinks up at times. If sending linen you may wish to also send interlining so the shade pleats better.

Heavy weight upholstery fabric like chenille and velvet do not work as well either.

Dowels may shine though slightly if your fabric is on the thinner side or a light color.

Please email me if you see fabric you like in any of my photos. You can also find great fabric online. Fabric.com and many other shops.

Please be aware that there are certain times that I may need you to send me additional fabric, more than your original quote (ie. if they pattern repeat is too large and I can't match the shades up, or if too little fabric was sent etc) This will be at the buyer's cost for the extra fabric needed.

Please send me the yardage on a continous roll and not in cut pieces. We often do not roll out the yardage until we are about to start your project.

If needing white shades you can always purchase white curtains to use for your shades.

Please do not send me much more fabric than what I quoted you to send if you want the excess returned back to you. If you send the amount requested, there will not be any left over. I calculate the shipping for your shades based on the weight of just your shades and not any excess fabric being returned. Left over fabric will not be sent with your shade. Please send fabric on one continuous roll and not cut yardage.

You will get the address where to ship your fabric to (my address) once the order is purchased via an automated Etsy email receipt. Please do not ship the fabric so that a signature is regquired upon delivery, as I am not home all day to sign for it.

GROSGRAIN RIBBON TRIMMED SHADES
I often make these lovely grosgrain ribbon shades (similar to the popular Pottery Barn style ones. They have ribbon down the sides and along the bottom. I can provide the ribbon for them in many basic colors. As of January 2017, I no longer glue the ribbon down, rather I sew it down to provide more security and a neater appearance.

WHERE TO BUY YOUR RIBBON

I can supply basic colors in 1 1/2" wide grosgrain ribbon or you may provide.
1.5" - 3" grosgrain works best. Non-wired and solid. There are a lot of great places online and stores like Michaels, AC Moore and Hobby Lobby.

CUSTOM WINDOW TREATMENTS VS STORE BOUGHT
The beauty of custom window treatments is that you can have them made in any size you'd like. Most stores only carry standard sizes and every window is very different, especially in older homes. Sew Lovely custom shades are made to fit your particular window. Also, you can send me your own fabric to match your decor! Most stores only carry a few fabric choices.

One thing to note about handmade shades, is that there may be a slight imperfection once in a while that won't be noticeable once the shades are hung up. For example, before hanging the shade you may notice one staple or thread on the top back part of the wood showing, ever so slightly. Things like this won't be seen when the shade is hung up and doesn't affect the beauty of the roman, as I always make sure any detail that will be seen when it's hung up is perfected. This is all part of the custom handmade process. Each shade is carefully constructed by hand with attention to detail but, as with any handmade product, it's possible to occur.

EVERY FABRIC WILL HANG A LITTLE DIFFERENT
It's important to know that every shade will look a little different when hung up, depending on the fabric you use and the size of your window (amount of pleats and top pleat placement etc). Also, fabric will shift a little (stretch) with certain temperatures and conditions. Gravity will also affect fabric that is hanging vertically. I make the shade as accurate as possible when it is cut on a flat surface. There might be a slight shift, depending on the fabric. Linen is tough to work with and is my least favorite fabric to use. It does not pleat well and hangs very loose. It also shifts a lot in the sewing machine and it's hard to make defined edges using linen. Please use caution when picking linen for your shade. Linen blends do work a little better. Bigduckcanvas.com has a linen/cotton vintage fabric and a linen/rayon blend. Also Robert Allen Linen Slub blended linen works better, but still not as good another fabrics. Each shade will pleat a little different. If your window is really long, you will have more pleats. Every shade will stack a little different at the top, depending on size of the windo.

CLASSIC ROMAN SHADES AND RELAXED ROMANS
Most of the shades I do are flat/classic pleated roman shades. They will lay flat on the window when down and form pleats when pulled up. The pleats are around 7 inches each. They have dowels inside them to make the pleats more defined. Sometimes when the light shines through, you may see the dowels. Relaxed roman shades do not have dowels throughout the shades like the flat shades. They do not have a curved bottom like some relaxed shades do and will be more straight across on the bottom but hang loosely. Relaxed shades are best if you don’t intend to raise and lower them often. They will most always need to be manually pleated into place. When you raise them, the pleats don’t fall perfectly into place unless you manipulate them a bit. The 1x2 inch board on top will be wrapped around to the back with the front face fabric. Face fabric wraps around about 1-2" on the back side of the shade along the borders.

LINING FABRIC
Lining is WHITE on the back of the shades. I can also make the shades to have liner PLUS the face fabric on the back, if you wanted the back to have the same fabric as the front. Every shade needs one because the dowels are hidden between the liner and the face fabric. The liner also protects the shade from sun damage. If you prefer to buy it and ship along with your fabric, that is great. I can also tack it on to a custom listing for you. Regular liner lets some light shines through but also filters the light and diffuses some light. If your fabric is rather thick the regular liner will work nicely and filter out a lot of the light, so blackout may not be needed. If you have a medium weight fabric and want to block out the light completely, blackout liner may be the best option. Dowels may shine though slightly if your fabric is on the thinner side or a light color. Face fabric wraps around about 1-2" on the back side of the shade and borders the shade in the back.

IMPORTANT INFO REGARDING BLACKOUT SHADES

For more blackout coverage, inside mount shades are recommended. Shades with blackout liner my have some minor light bleeding through where the stiching is along the sides. It is only seen when light shines directly through (pin holes). This is unavoidable and a common thing for any blackout shade. As of March 2017, I figured out a way to patch the pin holes, to perfect the shade's apperance!

Custom Roman Shades, Curtains and Home Decor

Thanks for stopping by my shop, Sew Lovely by Kelly, custom roman shades and decor using your own fabric!

A little about me... I've been sewing since I was very young and follow in my mother and grandmother's footsteps. They were always sewing something, whether it be doll clothes or holiday decorations or my dance and Halloween costumes! My grandma did craft fairs for years and while she did it mostly for fun, she also did very well and worked hard at her craft. Growing up, I always loved to see what she created!

I enjoy being crafty. I love handmade things because it's more personal and you can find really great, unique products that you can't buy in big stores. I'm a big fan of Etsy and I've bought some beautiful products on here for myself and as gifts for others.

How my Etsy shop started...
I worked at CNBC doing production work for about 17 years. I never imagined I would be leaving my TV career to do this full time, but here I am...Working from home, running a business, and raising my two little boys! It’s not always easy, but it’s my passion and I feel very lucky!

In 2013, I bought a no-slip fabric headband for running from a start up shop called, Sweaty Bands. I thought, “hey I could easily sew this headband myself, and this company is taking off from such a simple idea!” so I started making my own headbands out of fun fabric, but with a different twist to them. I opened up an Etsy shop and added my headbands, calling it, “Be Snappy Headbands.” I sold interchangeable headbands with snap-on accessories. The concept was, one headband with a lot of different looks. You were able to personalize it by interchanging the little added accessories (ballet shoes, characters, butterflies etc). I also created a lot of embroidered headbands for soccer teams and groups running in road races etc. Although it was fun making them, it was not a profitable product for me. I started feeling more motivated to try to make a living out of my craft, so I decided to change direction and think of something even bigger.

The Rebranding Of Sew Lovely, formerly, Be Snappy Headbands...

So I had taken a couple sewing classes and made swags, shades, pillows, cushions etc over 10 years ago but when we bought our first home in 2014, I made another Roman shade for our hallway window. It came out so nice that I decided to try adding them to my “headband” Etsy shop to see how they did on there. The shades steadily became a big hit and, surprisingly, people were buying them even with only one photo of a shade I had done! So in 2015, I rebranded my shop, changed the name to Sew Lovely By Kelly, and started focusing on roman shades. As I got more and more good reviews, more photos of my work and tweaked my product a million times to perfect it, experimenting with supplies and vendors etc, my shop began to really take off. So for about 4 years now, I’ve been making mostly Roman shades. I also do shower curtains, pillows, curtains and cushions. I really like seeing customer's fabric from all over the country and all the different tastes in decor. I also love seeing photos of my shades in a customer's home, and see how they can really help complete a room!

I'm constantly thinking about new creations and look forward to adding even more to my shop in the future!

Thanks for taking the time to read about my shop!

All custom sales are final. Cancellations within 24 hours of purchase. I hope your enjoy your purchase and I strive to make it just perfect for you! If for any reason you are not satisfied, please contact me first so we can come up with a resolution. I will gladly fix any issues you may have and I address concerns right away. For any defects that are the fault of Sew Lovely, I will make the fixes and repairs free of charge and pay for shipping (sizing etc). If it is something that can be easily adjusted without sending back, you will be instructed on how to fix the issue. If you would prefer not to make the easy adjustment, you may ship back but will need to pay for return shipping. You must ship back no quicker than USPS 3 day priority mail. Please do not ship back via Fed Ex or UPS. For issues that are a result of the customer's failure to follow fabric choice recommendations or customer providing the wrong sizing info, the shades will be fixed at the cost of the customer.

Ship date on your order is usually very accurate but is not always guaranteed. It can be delayed slightly if the incorrect amount of fabric was sent, and due to other unexpected circumstances (medical emergency etc.). If you need the item for sure on a certain date, please email me before purchasing.

No refunds will be given to cover the cost of the buyer’s fabric.

SHIPPING
All items are shipped USPS Priority mail. Tracking will be given on your order once the item ships. It’s never happened, but if ever your package was lost in transit by USPS, the insurance will cover the labor and shipping for the shades only. The cost of your fabric will not be covered under insurance since we do not know how much the fabric is worth when shipping out. So you will be refunded for labor and shipping only for lost packages. USPS is not the best at updating tracking information often. Often, the package will say "label created, pre-transit" but the package is actually already in transit and just not updated. Please be patient with USPS tracking information and check back in a few days. If you still have not received the package after 2 weeks of saying "shipped," please let us know so we can keep an eye on it and file a claim with USPS, if needed. In 4 years, we have only had about 2 packages lost and have sent thousands of boxes. USPS claims cannot be filed until 30 days after a package label is created and is considered "lost."

Please hang your shades the right way for installation (for example, screw eyes should be facing the floor when hung). These are handmade, so there may be times when there is a staple seen in the back of the shade or fabric might not be tucked exactly the same way on each side in the back etc. Once the shade is hung, these things are NOT visible from the front and it does not affect the security of the shade what-so-ever, or the beauty of the shade. I always strive to make the shades as perfect as possible but since they are handmade, there could be some very minor cosmetic differences with every shade I make and it doesn't affect the appearance or function.

Since every window is a different size, pleats might not all look the same in every photo on my page. Longer windows will have more pleats and might look different from shorter windows. WIndows under 26" will only have one or 2 pleats. Fabric choice also affects how the shade looks.

Since the custom orders do take me a long time to make, there will be no refunds if a shade issue can be fixed. Most shades CAN be easily tweaked within one day. Original shipping and fabric charges will not be considered as part of the refund. Please contact me within 10 days if you have any issues. Refunds or re-dos will not be considered after this time period. I will confirm your measurements with you before I sew your shades, so please make sure your measurements are accurate. Please make sure your custom order looks ok and measurements are accurate in the order I created for you. I won't be able to refund you if ,for some reason, you change your mind on your final measurements once I started to already sew your shades. If you gave me the wrong measurements, initially, I can fix the shades to the corrected measurement but there will be a charge. Also please make sure to send me the correct yardage that I gave you for your shades. Please be sure it is on a continuous roll and not cut yardage. Seller is not responsible for any imperfections in fabric that is sent to me, or too little fabric sent. Please check your fabric before sending . If for some reason, there is a major imperfection in the fabric you sent me, I will notify you before I sew them but small imperfections in fabric will be used. Also some fabric doesn't work well for roman shades. Burlap , velvets, heavy upholstery fabric, silks and very light fabric or fabric that frays won't work well and will look different from the photos on my site.
Payment
I accept PayPal and major credit cards. You may also mail a check or money order along with your fabric. Check and money order should be payable to me, Kelly Rinik. If you are picking up your order from me in person, you can give me cash or a check as payment. If I do not receive your fabric within 2 months, your order may be cancelled.
Shipping
Orders will be mostly shipped priority USPS. My turn around time is now about from 6-8 weeks from the time I get your fabric. I cannot guarantee a definite date that you will receive the shades in the mail by, as sometimes orders may be slightly delayed by a few days or a week. Also, some times USPS has delays. Tracking is available through Etsy for custom shade orders. Click on your "purchases" to see tracking information. Often, USPS does not update tracking and it will still say "pre-shipment." The package leaves our shop the day of or the day after the label is created. USPS does not update tracking often so please check back in a few days if still saying "pre-transit." The package is in transit but the system is not updated often. USPS lost package claims cannot be filed until at least 30 days after the package was shipped and considered "lost." Seller is not responsible for items that were not received and were tracked as delivered to the address. If you have not received your package after 2 weeks of it saying "shipped," please contact us so we can keep an eye on the package and file a claim, if necessary. All packages are insured for the full amount of labor and an estimated cost of the fabric. We do not know how much every customer's fabric cost, so we estimate fabric and use an average cost of fabric for insurance purposes. We cannot refund any more than the insured amount.
Additional policies and FAQs
If we email each other and agree on a quote and you request a custom listing set up for you, please try to purchase your personalized listing within one week, or let me know via email if you are delayed or changed your mind about purchasing. Etsy does charge the seller a fee to create a special listing for customers and there are some times a customer wants one created, but never actually purchases the listing. So kindly just keep me in the loop if you change your mind etc after agreeing to have a listing set up. :)

Please make sure all fabric you send me is the standard 54 inches wide. Seller not responsible for any imperfections/markings in the fabric you send me or that i purchase . On the rare occasion, I may need more fabric to make your shades (more than I quoted you) if the repeat pattern is too large, or too little fabric was sent etc. Buyer will be responsible for purchasing and sending me more fabric to complete the order.

There should not be any left over fabric from your order if you send me the correct amount. Please do not send more than requested. Left over fabric will not be returned.

Very wide width shades do not work well with anything other than medium weight/decor fabric. The fabric will not fold nicely, especially with blackout liner and thick fabric on really wide shades (over 50 inches).

Sometimes given the fabric type and amount given, I am not able to staple the fabric completely around the back of the top headboard. This will not be seen from the front of the shade, so it should not affect the shade at all.

Please double check your custom order I created for you to be sure it's accurate

ADDITIONAL LINING INFO
Drapery Linings
Draperies, as you know, are always lined. The lining serves a number of functions.
* It helps protect the fabric from the harsh rays of the sun.

* It helps protect the curtain fabric from dust.

* It makes the draperies more opaque, providing greater light control and privacy.

* It makes the draperies hang better and softens the folds.
Obviously, when draperies are closed, they are drawn across the window and a person on the outside will see the lining rather than the beautiful drapery fabric. Accordingly, you don’t want to use a lining fabric that will conflict with the look of the architecture. Usually, you are best off using a lining of cotton sateen in a neutral color such as white, cream, or beige. A competent draper will advise you of the best lining to use with the fabric and treatment you’ve selected.

Interlining
If the fabric is particularly delicate, the draper may advise you to add an interlining. An interlining is a second lining that is sandwiched between the drapery fabric and the regular lining to add bulk to the drapery and enable it to hang better. With delicate drapery fabrics it is a particularly good investment since, in addition to adding opulence to the look of the draperies, it considerably lengthens their life.
In very cold or very hot climates, interlinings often serve an additional function—they are sewn into draperies to provide added temperature control. Some interlinings use a heavy flannel-backed material and some drapery linings use a product like 3M Thinsulate™ to improve heat retention in the room. Again, rely upon your draper’s advice and skill
