About

fashionable function--and all the other things in between.

Hi! My name is Moe and I've lived in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina for over a decade now and will never tire of the beauty this area has to offer. I try to incorporate this wonder into all of my designs--its hard to explain how a beautiful place can really inspire and challenge your work in different and unexpected ways! I want to make beautiful clothing that can be worn on someones best adventure, whether that be to work or a weekend getaway. The thought that I can help someone feel their best in a garment built specifically for them has become more rewarding than I ever expected. I am learning every day from the women I have the pleasure of making clothing for, I love my Etsy ladies! It's hard to imagine a career more fulfilling and I am SO thankful to have stumbled into it.
I actually graduated from college with a geography/environmental science degree--I always envisioned myself as a professional environmental researcher. Oh, the life of spending months out in the woods, drawing maps, taking notes! I loved my classes and internships--but after graduating college I realized I wasn't willing to move to the cities that had the entry level jobs I needed to get my foot in the door. It just didn't make sense to me why I would have to move to a city with no mountains or swimming holes--if all I wanted was to get a job that would keep me in the woods all the time. Maybe it's worth noting that I have been described as a stubborn person before. :)
So I moved to Asheville, North Carolina on a whim in 2003 after some time of post-college travel and "figuring it out". Tucked right in the Blue Ridge mountains, I figured if I couldn't get paid to be in the woods I could at least have them right in my backyard. At the time I had only sewn for my own wardrobe, or the occasional project for a friend. Over the years, opportunities arrived. I collaborated with friends, I networked with boutiques and other designers--and with a lot of just not giving up, I found myself working full time at Sew Moe. Sure there was a lot of working another full time job, and then part time jobs--but now I wake up incredibly thankful every morning that I was patient and had enough blind faith to just keep stumbling along. I have learned so much about myself and my craft in the last 10 years. And I still have the opportunity to do that on a daily basis which is well...pretty rad.
Whichever way you slice it, there is something incredibly satisfying about beginning the day with folds of fabric and leaving the studio with a finished, handmade item of clothing that I designed from start to finish. And better yet--getting to send it to someone who will love it just as much as I do.

I am one thankful lil' lasse.
