“What’s Etsy?” I asked. That was in May of 2011. I had just retired from a 36-year career as a pharmacist and was wondering what to do next. I was pretty sure that whatever I decided would involve a needle and thread.

I absolutely love to sew. I thought about doing custom sewing or alterations, but realized that those choices would require appointments and fittings–working on someone else’s schedule. No, I wanted to enjoy my newfound freedom.

I love dolls even more than I love sewing and my son suggested that I combine these two loves by opening an Etsy shop. I put up my first listings on August 15th of 2011 and have been having the time of my life ever since.

At first, I was nervous about “competing” with the other doll clothes shops that I saw on Etsy. They had some great designs and exhibited excellent workmanship. Then, I gathered up my self-confidence and decided to just sew what I love and go for it. I found out that there is room for all of us here.

I enjoy working with color and pattern and I like dressing American Girl dolls to look like, well, girls. I don’t try to get too trendy or make them look like teenagers. I am thrilled that eight- to twelve-year-old girls are enjoying dolls and I want to encourage that innocence as much as possible.

Because I have wonderful customers who keep coming back for more, I push myself to introduce new designs and color combinations so that my shop stays fresh. I hope that playing with dolls will help me stay young–and that I will never have to grow up!
