Now that 3 out of our 4 children are married I am starting to get the hang of all the fun with planning and attending weddings. I've helped make everything from silk bouquets, boutonnieres, even a ring bearer truck, dresses, alterations and decorated wagons, frames and tables. My favorite of course is sewing and creating dresses.
When my son got married last year, I had a dress in mind that just could not be found. I felt all the styles for moms where too "OLD" looking, so I came up with the floor length dark sage green gown featured in my shop. I got so many complements on that dress as well as the purple flower girl dress my granddaughter wore and models for my store. I was feeling the urge to sew for others. I know first hand how hard it is to find a decent dress with quality material that will flow the way it should.
I have always been drawn to the style of the 1920's and love recreating this look. Most of my dresses also have an asymmetrical look which seems more interesting and balanced to me. I also enjoy adding the extras like lace, ruffles, bows, beads or whatever it takes to turn heads.
My granddaughter is my favorite model as she comes up with pose after pose and is always willing to help out. It's like playing dress up for both of us while I style her hair and apply a little makeup. We go around the house and find fun props, and she just has fun which clearly comes across in her pictures.
Needing to fill my time during football season while my husband disappears into the computer screen following his fantasy team, I started knitting fingerless gloves for myself and Christmas presents. Everywhere I went people where stopping me to see my gloves. When a lady leaned across the chairs at the movie theater to complement my gloves, my husband and I knew I needed a place to show what I create.
Now that I have begun this adventure and taken over a room in the house with bags of material, ribbon, lace, and more, I have yet to figure out a way to organize it all.
