Wool clothing for kids and adults
sewoiseau's Shop Policies
Thank you for visiting the Sew Oiseau shop!
Each item is an original. Because many of the pieces are constructed from recycled materials, colour, weight, structure and fibre will vary and may be limited in supply. I am happy to do my best to fill special orders and accomodate your colour preferences. However, due to the nature of my source materials, I am unable to fulfill precise colour requests. I have reclaimed wool in dozens of shades and colours and I cannot photograph each one nor provide a list of what I have in stock as it is constantly changing. Please respect my creative license and exercise flexibility when placing a custom order.
A word about wool...
I work mainly with wool because, well frankly, it's amazing. It's warm yet still breathable and therefore adaptable to more than one season. It's naturally antibacterial and doesn't take up odours like other fibres which means it seldom needs washing.
Here are some tips on how to best care for your woolens in order to get the most out of them.
It's important to wash them only when necessary. Air drying is actually the preferred method of cleaning woolens because the fibres in wool react with oxygen to neutralize any sweat or other residue. If soiled, a mild detergent - so as not to strip the natural oils - is recommended. Medium and heavier weights wools can better handle a washing machine (be sure to use a gentle cycle and cold water) but hand washing is recommended for fine wools (such as merino) and cashmere. Wools should never be put in a dryer. Line drying is best.
When storing woolens, seal them in a plastic bag. Moths are mainly attracted to dry skin cells and the human oils left in wool, so be sure they have been aired out and are completely dry prior to storing. You may wish to add a sprig of lavender or a cedar ball as an extra insurance against moths.
If you have any questions about wool or wool care, just ask.

Ready-to-ship items are shipped weekdays within 24-48 hours of purchasing. Custom orders are processed in the order in which they are received. Most items take 1-2 weeks to make but please check the processing time indicated on the individual item listing.
Shipping is carried out in the most cost effective method available through Canada Post. Estimated prices are based on ground, air, or expedited shipping, whichever method is least expensive:
~Canadian purchases are sent by Expedited Post with tracking and an estimated 1-7 days delivery.
~US purchases are sent by Light Packet Air Mail, which does not include tracking and estimates 7-10 business days for delivery.
~International purchases are sent by Surface Mail which does not include tracking and may take up to 6 weeks (although generally much less).
Please note that items may get slowed down at customs. Sew Oiseau has no control over the speed of shipping or custom delays. US and international customers are responsible for any custom charges or duties.
If you require a speedy or more secure shipment method at an additional cost, please convo me before purchasing. For your reference, expedited shipping for international orders, which include tracking, can cut the shipping time in half but cost double the regular price. Xpress post costs $30 and up and ships in 2-3 days.
Refunds and Exchanges
Sew Oiseau offers a partial refund and exchange.
Returns are subject to a 10% restocking fee. To be accepted for a 90% refund, the item must not show signs of wear and be sent (postmarked) within one week of receipt. Buyers are responsible for return shipping fees; original shipping charges are non-refundable.
Digital patterns, custom chair socks and intimates, including wool underwear, are not eligible for exchange or refund.
All other items are eligible for exchange as long as there is no sign of wear and as long as notification occurs within one week of receipt. Whereas buyers are responsible for covering return shipping fees, Sew Oiseau will cover the shipping of the replacement item.
Sew Oiseau guarentees the size and fibre content of all ready-to-ship items as described in the listing. Likewise, all custom items are guarenteed in the size and fibre content of each specific order. Sew Oiseau cannot guarentee that an item will fit. Buyers are responsible for verifying the exact measurements listed in custom sizing chart. If ever you are unsure, include your chest, waist, hip and height measurements, as well as desired inseam (crotch to leg cuff), rise (top of waistband to crotch) and sleeve length measurement if applicable.
Please remember that children's sizes are based on the suggested measurements attributed to each age not the current age of your child (ie if your child is 2 years old but wears 3T clothing, please order the 3T size). Consult the measurement chart included in the listing whenever you are unsure.

Commitment to Using Upcycled Materials:
All items are made from reclaimed textiles. Sew Oiseau cannot ultimately guarentee the integrity of the recycled materials used. However, the utmost care is taken prior to reconstruction to ensure that the chosen wool is of the higest quality. Stains are gently removed and strong scents are naturally eliminated using a vinegar bath. Upcycled garments are carefully inspected to avoid weak spots; at times, a reverse appliqué patch is used to replace the weak spot and add character to the finished piece, in which case the item listing will outline this option.
