About

Sew Silly Lily

I'm a Helensburgh lass, born and bred and have been making and creating since I was a wee.

I graduated from Glasgow School of Art many moons ago with a degree in Embroidered Textile Design but my passion for craft and design goes way beyond embroidery.

I have always loved simplicity, subtlety and elegance; but I also adore pattern and colour and an opportunity to add a wee touch of humour to my work. Silly Lily is a hotchpotch of all of these things presented as a range of handmade gifts, collectables and lifestyle accessories.

From the first silly thoughts that pop into my head, to the label that's pinned on at the very end - every aspect of a Sew Silly Lily design is carefully considered and there is no compromise when it comes to choosing the right materials, yarns or trims. I make every piece as if it were the very first and no two are ever quite the same. This is the nature of things that are handmade and what I love most about them.

At the moment I work part time for a button merchant; a dream job, and I spend the rest of my time being a mum, sewing, embroidering, crocheting, felting, needle felting, knitting, painting . . .

Additional policies and FAQs
Although I may make the same designs over again there are always slight differences that make each piece unique. This is the nature of things that are hand made and what I love most about the process of making them. There will be instances when I may have to substitute fabrics or yarns but this is always done with careful thought and consideration.

If you like my work but are looking for something different or truly unique please get in touch; I would be delighted to work with you to create something really special.

Patterns aren't quite the same as a finished piece of work, but I hope you will appreciate that there is still many hours of work involved in the designing, choosing of yarns, crocheting and testing before my silly thoughts and ideas are eventually brought to life. Patterns allow me to share my work in a different way, but they're still very personal, and for that reason I would rather they are used to make things for yourself or to be given as gifts. If you are using my patterns to make goods for sale then all I ask is that Sew Silly Lily is given credit for the original design. You may NOT sell, redistribute, alter or publish patterns!
