I should really be writing...

Fussing about finding the perfect notebook provides a great way to procrastinate from writing! I've opened this shop to channel the impulse into something productive, and hopefully help you get on with your own creative work, whatever it may be.

I like notebooks with exposed stitching on the spine, both for the way they look and for the fact that they open all the way and lie flat. Stiff covers (most made from Eska graphic board) make it easier to write with the book in your lap, leaning against the edge of the coffee-shop table, etc.

I like to write with my fountain pen, so I prefer thicker paper so that the ink won't bleed through, but I also like lined pages. It's hard to find that perfect combination! I print the pages with dotted lines in a variety of colours, at just the right spacing for my own handwriting. (Because the lines are printed in ink, they aren't waterproof, but then, neither is fountain-pen ink, so...)

Size is another important factor; I want my notebooks to be small enough for portability, but big enough to fit lots of words on each page. To keep costs low, I use standard-sized paper (8.5 x 11) folded in half, which creates a book of just about the ideal size. I do also make smaller books, because let's face it, little notebooks are just fun!

Those are my obsessive notebook preferences. What are yours?
