Bookbinding is a mindfulness practice for me. Measuring, stitching, and glueing requires me to focus all of my attention on the immediate task at hand. I am deeply thankful for the privilege of creating and dreaming with beautiful materials.
I am someone who craves tactile satisfaction. I design my books for people like me who love the scratch of pen/cil on paper and appreciate the sensory nourishment of high quality materials, from the fuzzy fabric of bookcloth to the tooth of smooth paper to the gold shimmer in a silkscreened chiyogami print.
All of my books are created in a smoke-free/pet-free home. I also make custom orders- guest books, albums, planners, exposed-spine sketch books. Feel free to message me if you have specific requests for colors/patterns. Unfortunately, I am not trained in restoring/rebinding antique books. Tactile Joys, Visual Satisfaction
I have been binding books for almost 10 years, ever since my first bookbinding class at San Francisco Center for the Book. Sometimes I feel like a dinosaur in a world of electronic devices but the scratch of pen on paper will always be a satisfying, self-affirming tactile action for me.
My shop is small because each book takes over 2 hours to make (again: DINOSAUR), plus I have other jobs. I enjoy using high quality, acid-free materials that are pleasing to the touch and I only bind books when I'm in a good mood because otherwise I will make mistakes and ruin expensive materials. These books are sturdy and built to last- they have traveled all over the world in backpacks.
I also make custom orders- guest books, exposed spine sketch books, and larger sizes than what is listed on this site. Feel free to message me if you have specific requests for colors/patterns. Unfortunately, I am not trained in restoring/rebinding antique books; you need a college degree to do that right. Keep in mind that custom orders require a minimum of 1 week to complete and will cost more than the books listed in my shop depending on the type and amount of materials required for the project.
