I construct bendable, poseable dolls for dollhouses on a 1:12 scale.
Hello, I am so glad you are here!
I am, first of all, a mother of four children and wife to a wonderful man and we all live in the beautiful state of Colorado.
I spent the first five years of my educational life in a Waldorf school where I learned the importance of beautiful, natural things. I do believe that natural fibers lend a certain warmth to a project and hope that my customers can see it with my dolls.
I got into the Etsy scene because several years ago my oldest daughter needed a dollhouse family for her dollhouse and my search for dolls ended in disappointment. There was nothing out there that was acceptable! So I decided to make a family for her by deconstructing a Halfpenny Doll (the ones Hearthsong Catalog used to carry). I was very familiar with Sally Mavor and her fairy dolls, and I realized the Halfpenny dolls were wrapped in a similar way. This took a while, but I was able to make a family for her!
When Etsy exploded onto the web scene, I was inspired to make my own way with a shop and that is how Shannon Vall's Dolls was started.
The dolls are labor-intensive, to say the least. Many steps go into making one doll, and it takes about 3 hours or so to make one. I start with all natural cotton pipe cleaners and wrap the head with wool batting and organic cotton. I then wrap the body with wool or cotton yarn. I glue all joints before covering them with the yarn to make them sturdy for child play. The eyes, mouth and hair come next and then the outfit.
Most of my orders have been custom with the customer sending me a description or a pic of the family-to-be-made.

Thanks you for visiting my shop. All my dolls are handmade and I enjoy creating each and every one of them!
These dolls resemble the Halfpenny dolls that Hearthsong catalog used to carry. When my daughter needed a dollhouse family for her dollhouse, I realized I could not find Halfpenny dolls anywhere and everything else was unacceptable. I was already familiar with Sally Mavor and her fairy dolls and this inspired me to make my own dolls.
The dolls are made in a multi-stage process and take about three hours to make one. They are sturdy and are meant for lots of play!
I have quite a fabric stash, so I can take color requests when it comes to custom orders. I have been putting all the females in skirts, but I am now branching out! Applause. I have a denim colored felt that can pass as jeans, so if a more modern woman is desired, I can do it.
CUSTOM ORDERS ARE ENCOURAGED!! I think it is fun for the child to have some familiarity, which is why I suggest custom ordering. The dolls I have made for my daughters all had some sort of brown hair and/or bangs and braids. I also made a Dad doll who wears an Ohio State University sweatshirt. He spends a lot of time on the couch...
I do recommend these dolls for children four years of age or older. However, some three-year-olds are quite gentle and can handle them.
