Announcement    Welcome to my Etsy shop! I make jewellery & home decor with sea glass found at Seaham Beach in North East England and surrounding beaches.

🌊 Seaham Beach is one of the best places in the UK to find sea glass, and Seaham sea glass is world famous for the quantity, quality, and the rare & multicoloured sea glass that can be found here. Much of the sea glass found in this area is thought to be over 100 years old, thrown into the ocean by bottleworks, the biggest and most notable being Londonderry bottleworks that used to be here from 1853-1921. Isn’t is just so dreamy that the sea glass has been lost at sea for all that time, broken, smoothed and shaped by waves, to wash up on the beach all these years later, something once considered rubbish now a beautiful piece of treasure.

🌊 In your order I will always endeavour to include information about which beach the sea glass was found on, and some information about it’s history.

🌊 All the sea glass is hand picked by me (and occasionally family & friends), I never use cultured glass, only genuine sea glass, and I do not change the shape of the sea glass in any way, I want it to arrive with you as it did on the shore, fresh from the ocean, shaped by the waves.

🌊 Every piece of sea glass is unique, and so every design I make is one of a kind. If a piece you like is sold or you would like a variation of an existing listing just send me a message and I can send you some options for creating a custom order specially for you. I LOVE working on custom orders, in fact around 50% of my sales are custom orders, I love working with you to create something unique just for you.

♻️ Quality matters to me, I only use 925 sterling silver in my jewellery designs (unless otherwise requested). And being eco friendly is at the core of my designs and business ethics too. I use recycled sterling silver where possible, my packaging is plastic free and recyclable, the sea glass is of course rescued from the ocean, and when I beach comb for sea glass I litter pick too, giving back to the environment and protecting our oceans.

🌊 When you wear Shaped By Waves sea glass jewellery you keep a piece of the ocean close to your heart, you wear a piece of history, and help clean the ocean too!

✨ Follow @shapedbywaves on Instagram to see the behind the scenes design and making processes in my home studio, and to see my beach combing finds.

Thank you for visiting my shop and supporting my small handmade business, it means the world!

Frequently asked questions

Do you make custom orders?

YES! I love working on custom orders, in fact around 50% of my sales are custom orders. So if something you liked has sold, or you would like a variation of an existing listing just send me a message and I can send you some options for creating a custom order specially for you.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. You will find a list of delivery options in the delivery section which include destinations I have shipped to previously. If your delivery country is not listed just send me a message for a delivery fee quote.

Do you accept returns for earrings?

No, sorry but for health/hygiene reasons returns are not accepted for earrings.

Do you accept returns for custom order rings?

Please confirm your ring size before ordering. Rings are made by custom order, your ring will be made specially for you to the size you specified, it is the buyers responsibility to provide the correct measurements. Returns will not be accepted for sizing issues if the ring is the size requested.

Care instructions

I rub the sea glass that I use to make jewellery pieces with coconut oil to bring back the fresh from the ocean look. If your sea glass becomes dull or more frosted over time just rub it with more coconut oil. To clean the sterling silver rub it with a polishing cloth to remove tarnish the that can occur over time, and when not worn keep your jewellery in a jewellery box or pouch.

Why is the shipping cost to South Africa so much?

I have used other shipping providers previously to ship to South Africa who were cheaper but not at all reliable. I now use DHL only to ship to South Africa as DHL have proved to be a reliable carrier for this destination, the shipping cost listed is the cost I have been charged previously for this destination.
