5 out of 5 starsA while back, I ordered a grab bag of random watercolor paints after very excitedly finding a few at a gallery (which are now available here). They arrived almost immediately, so quickly that they were sitting in the mailbox before I even thought to check on the package. Each one was wrapped individually and beautifully. No disappointment once they hit the paper, each color is gorgeous. A rainbow variety of glitter, sparkle, granulation, and subtle opaque colors. Do not hesitate, buy these paints! If you are drawn to sparkle, or the idea of paints made from stones or plant matter, you NEED THEM. They are beautiful, and everything that mainstream paints are not. Plus, Jarrod is a treat to work with, and truly goes above and beyond to address any of your questions or needs. It is impossible to go wrong. Just do it!

5 out of 5 starsThis is one of those things that you really need to see in person. The depth of color refraction on the dry paint is amazing, never mind once activated. Absolute ::French kiss::.

I cannot tell you how much I appreciate that you noticed any of this! The immense amount of time it took to work these wings into paint was a nightmare, so thank you so much for even noticing the fruits of that endeavor! You're the best.

5 out of 5 starsFirst: Jarrod is a joy to converse with. Just a wonderful human. Second: super-fast shipping. I ordered. I blinked. Here they were. Last, but not least: The presentation felt like Christmas. I have the paints swatched, but the little wrapped pans were so adorable that this os the photo you get. The paints are beautiful. They reactivated very well and swatched beautifully. These really are lovely paints and I look forward to seeing more from this maker.

5 out of 5 starsWhat a very unique paint. The gold flakes give an interesting texture to the paint. Seller was super quick to ship and responded quickly when there was an issue. If you’re looking for a one of a kind paint, splurge on something from Shattered Elegance

Please feel free to ask anything via the Etsy direct message or send me an email to Jarrodjvandenberg@gmail.com to inquire.
Do you make your watercolor paints by hand and/or from scratch?
Absolutely. Not only do I make my binder from absolute scratch from a proprietary recipe, it's organic, sustainable and took over a year to develop. Mine is fundamentally different than most binders and will never mold/turn like some handmade watercolor makers.
All pigments from organic, botanical to mineral are sustainably, responsibly and ethically collected/harvested and processed then ground by myself. I then hand-mull every single small batch. I don't repeat any batch and that's why they are never double filled with catchy "pillow topped" because these aren't repeatable. They're unique and I take pride in ensuring every batch is.
Do you use your own paint?
Hell yes. My paints are also artist-grade, not student-grade; I use my own watercolor in my own work I not only sell, but display in galleries, so high quality is a must. You can see a body of my work in my portfolio on website (shatteredelegance.net) or Adobe Behance.
Do you have a portfolio?
Very much so and I take great pride in being a consummate professional in my field.

Adobe Behance Portfolio here: https://www.behance.net/Jarrodjvandenberg
Do you license your designs and illustrations?
Yes, I do; for big box stores, major companies and small businesses alike. Please send an email to me at Jarrodjvandenberg@gmail.com to inquire.
Do you teach or offer masterclasses?
I do, regularly. I teach various classes from Modern Calligraphy, Blackletter Calligraphy to Watercolor, Beadwork and Digital Art/Design. I also speak regularly about the importance of price points and design business. If you're interested, you can inquire about scheduling for your next event to my email at Jarrodjvandenberg@gmail.com; I don't just do events locally, I do travel often for said events as well.
Do you make your own watercolor binder?
I do! It's my own recipe and it's 100% organic and sustainable. I make each batch by hand, from scratch. I'm really proud of it and it took over a year to create and develop. It's different than all other binders and the science that went behind the creation of it was immense. Mine's different in regards to it never turning or going bad, regardless of how many times it's reactivated. Artist-grade quality was important to me, because I use these paints in my own work professionally as well, not just sell them. In other words, I practice what I preach and use my own products, proudly. It's the same for my FreakInk's Recipe too when making handmade inks.
Are your handmade watercolors lightfast?
Short answer, yes, but it depends on the pigment or color in question. If they aren't, it will be specified. All UV (ultraviolet) reactive pigments are not lightfast in nature; they will lose their reactivity over time when exposed to sunlight over a long period of time, such is the nature of the ingredient(s) used. As are specific botanicals, unless the pigment is stabilized to maintain the pigmentation when exposed to UV rays (sunlight). All factors are taken into consideration when creating new colors.
I use my own watercolors on a professional, gallery-level setting, so lightfastness is important along with sheer professional-level quality. I don't just sell my paints, I use them in my own work, so they had better be excellent.
