Announcement   Wood burning or pyrography is the technique of using heated metal tips to burn images in many different media. The traditional material is wood, she uses Baltic Birch plywood for its light color and smooth grain. Her favorite medium is Strathmore Bristol paper. The heated metal tips toast the paper without burning through. She has used leather for several pieces, its distinct surface responds well to the heat.

Marsha uses realism and chooses images that are positive or nostalgic to convey hope or warmth. She believes very strongly that positive thoughts and goals are well worth the effort, all the while using media and techniques normally associated with death and decay. Such as cut wood, tanned leather, and heated metal. Her attention to detail and shading makes her art appear life-like.

Pyrography is an ancient technique the early settlers called it “Poker Art” and the American Indians used burning to decorate their tents and pottery, thus giving her pieces a timeless almost ethereal quality, all too precious in a time surrounded by technology and plastics.

The world map burned onto a cowhide and made to look aged/antiqued turned out amazing. Marsha was quick to deliver, excellent quality, and so wonderful to work with. I highly recommend this shop.

I think it came out good, I used some supplies for effect on it. My only complaint is the artist signing the front. This is more of a prop than an artwork.

I got a request for the world map burned on a full size cow hide. It is coming along nicely. Almost done.
I used a projector to draw it out, then burned the image with a hand held wood burning tool. Then shaded areas are also burned.

About

My latest hobby love is burning pictures and word art into wood.

It smells wonderful while I'm burning. Finding the perfect picture and making it come alive is so satisfying. Pyrography is the art of burning with hot metal tips.

Lately I have added burning on paper and leather to the mix. Paper gives an amazing amount of shading and detail and the leather is just fun. I have started burning maps also, the older the better. Even the map of Mordor and mount Doom.

Come into my shop and look around, the pieces are all unique and there are quite a few styles to choose from, some rustic, some art deco, some that can't be defined.
Custom pieces are my joy and pleasure so if you think of something I'll be happy to do it.

I've been burning art on wood for six years. In the last two years I have started burning on heavy paper. The paper allows for much greater detail and shading. At the Dallas Conceptions Art Show I was presented with the Excellence award.

Care instructions

Wood burning and wood products should not be displayed in full bright sunlight. Sun light will bleach the wood and fade the burning. There are a few products that will delay this effect and can be added upon request.
