About ShelterProtectsYou
We are
SHELTER started in the spring of 2010 in the Mad River Valley of Vermont when we needed a bag to collect the wild edibles and mushrooms we’d been gathering. In autumn 2010, we moved from the Green Mountains to live in the mountains of western North Carolina.
We’re here to offer you well-crafted, beautiful, and thoughtful designs that are elegant, rustic, and timeless.
Karie Reinertson earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts and has exhibited her paintings and illustrations in numerous shows in Washington DC, San Francisco, CA, and Portland, OR. Prior to SHELTER, she worked for an environmental design non-profit, was a design/build intern and chef for a design/build school in Vermont, and traveled extensively internationally, volunteering for environmental education centers. She is currently designing and making handbags that focus on quality, sustainable, and local materials whenever possible.
Robert Maddox is a trained architect, earning his Masters in Architecture. He worked for a sustainable design firm in Brooklyn, NY for four years before moving to Vermont to work with a design/build school. He is a designer/builder and teaches a home design/build course in Vermont each summer.

SHELTER is a collective of generalists tending towards these specializations: design, craft, painting, home and cabin building, woodworking, drawing, walks in beautiful settings, and more. We’re adding to the list each day with pleasure.
Shop policies
All pieces are hand made, so there will be slight variances, including differences in colors / shades of leathers and color of some fabrics. Please be open to slight differences from picture to actual piece.

We do not accept returns.
If you would like to exchange an item, you are responsible for associated shipping costs.

Please note, all shipping charges are the responsibility of the buyer and will not be paid in part or in full by Shelter for any reason
Express Mail is an extra charge - please contact us with the item you would like to purchase and your country for rates and we'll get right back to you.
If you would like to use a different mailing method, let us know and we will most likely be able to accommodate.
We cannot be held responsible for packages that are lost in the mail. If you would like to be sure your package arrives safely, please contact us so we can add an insurance fee. There is no tracking for international packages.
