About shermanoberson
Polymer clay sculptures and Jewelry by Sherman Oberson
I started sculpting with clay as a child when my Aunt Kathy gifted me with polymer clay she had found on a trip. That one gift has shaped my artistic life and lead me to many new mediums. Polymer clay is the one thing that has been constant in my work. It's a wonderful material to work with and truly can be made into most anything.
About 10 years ago I heard about Polymer clay Guilds and joined the Philadelphia Area Polymer Clay Guild. Most of the members of the Guild were making jewelry out of the clay not sculpture as I was. That lead me to expanding my art and learning basic jewelry making skills. Eventually I moved on to creating jewelry with no polymer clay in it. I always loved vintage items as well and started reworking and combining them into my jewelry. That's why you'll find vintage items here as well.
Recently after taking a class with a wonderful Polymer clay sculptor and teacher Leslie Blackford my love of sculpting was revived. It's lead me to create the sculpted works you find for sale here. A class with another wonderful Polymer artist Doreen Kassel has expanded my use of oil paints on some of the sculptures.
Most of my stuff is one of a kind and all made by hand by me in my home studio in the Mount Airy section of Philadelphia. I hope you'll enjoy wandering through my imagination, if you have any questions or would like custom work please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Sherman Oberson
