The colors are beautiful! This print is of great quality. The painting brings you to such a pretty spot on the river.

About

"The Power of Rainbow Circle" - And the Joy of Painting the Landscape

Painting the Oregon landscape is a source of endless joy and inspiration. I've always loved this land, and loved seeing, hearing, touching and just being in the places where I work, play and live. The name of this shop, Rainbow Circle was the name of the street where I lived as a child, in the ponderosa pine country of central Oregon, United States. Although I have lived in other places, Oregon is my true home, with all its natural wonders. It is a state of mountains, seaside, rivers, lakes, high desert, wide open wetlands, and rugged volcanic peaks.

The desire to be a visual artist came late in my life, but I have dedicated myself to it with energy and wonder over the past decade. In addition to university art classes, I have attended workshops and galleries, with an open mind and thirst to learn more, ever more, about painting the landscape. And I have painted nearly every day of that decade, always the Oregon landscape. It is my hope that the reverence I feel for this land will shine clearly in all the work I do as an artist.

Color is my favorite art element, as you will probably realize when you look at my work. The Colorado painter Stephen Quiller has played a huge role in the continuing evolution of my use of color, through his DVD's and his several books on the subject.

I have a study gallery in Oakridge, Oregon. It is a rural town, surrounded by national forest and many streams and lakes. My artist buddy is a graceful border collie named Quiller (after Stephen Quiller.) If color is my favorite art element, water is my favorite subject element. Most of my paintings are made near to the water. Through water the earth and sky are often linked via reflection. I could paint that subject forever and never lose the awe it inspires. I hope that you can at least catch a glimmer of this joy in "place" and perhaps one of these paintings will speak to you in such a compelling way that you will choose to make it yours.

This shop story will be updated with photos and videos of me working in the beautiful places found in the state of Oregon. I began as more of a studio painter, using reference photos and occasionally plein air sketches. In the last three months I have spent more and more time painting in the field, even in the midst of what people are calling a "brutal" winter. I am working on a project: Oakridge in the winter. I will be posting updates to this project, mostly on my blog, but sometimes on this shop page as well.
