Mixing up some frit blends!
Who else is thinking of rainbow sherbet?? I was always amazed as a child the way the jar kept it's distinct layers while the sherbet in my bag was all mixed up!

Every experience with GlitteringprizeGlass will elicit excitement and anticipation to create!

Thank you for calling into my Etsy shop and taking the time to come and find out a little bit more! My name is Trudi and all the items in my Etsy shop have been lovingly hand crafted by me!

When I started out, it was born of a desire to create something different, something special. Once you have that you can't help but share that creation ... I wanted other people to love my work as much as I do. I had no idea where it would take me, or that it would change my life in the way it has. I feel a part of something very special, through the firm friendships formed, and being part of communities such as British Lampwork and Frit Happens. Over time I've learnt to embrace new ideas and the value of sharing. I love to see how my beads are used, they inspire me to revisit designs and make changes. By listening to my customers and editors I have created new ideas, written tutorials and started to teach. It's a circle that keeps giving and growing.

I find that the only limit to working with glass is my imagination .... there is no typical lampwork bead or fuse piece. Transparent pieces are exciting as they can show depth of colour, and simple facets allow the light to bounce through and reflect giving off different dimensions. When combined with opaque glass, the effects are intensified to a different level. Some of the glass I use have special properties that create special relations and effects .... did you know that some purples can colour shift under different light sources. Other materials I use include goldstone and dichroic for sparkle, frit (crushed glass pieces) for added colour and effect along with copper, silver, gold an palladium to name but a few.

I want to stir the emotion of my customers by using specially crafted pieces so that they can create their own inspired designs.

My family play a big part in my venture ... they support me emotionally and enable my visions with words of support and encouragement. My first "studio" was a bench in one of my Dad's draughty sheds (I needed nerves of steel in winter!) and it wasn't long before I took over the whole shed. I now work in specially built " Lamp Lodge", thank you Dad for the name an the sign. My Uncle and my Cousin put in the insulation and built the internal walls and benches (we used recycled wood to make the supports). Since I have been full time, I have been re-designing the space to give me defined work areas and to make best use of the space. It's not quite finished yet, but I'm getting there.

My beads are made using a traditional lampwork method where the glass is melted in a very hot flame, hand shaped while still hot before going into a warm kiln. The kiln is digitally controlled, and anneals the beads which eliminates stress and makes them stronger. All my beads are all cleaned so that they arrive with you ready to use!! This is the difference between buying artisan beads and mass produced ones, when you see them, you can see the quality. See here for an example of the difference

While the fused pieces are worked while cold, hand cut and designed before placing into a cold kiln which reaches very high temperatures to fused the pieces together.

Each process can take a few days, depending on the design.

Glittering Prize - where did it come from?? I'm a child of the 80's, and am a Simple Minds fan - and the name comes from one of their tracks, which I thought was quite fitting!

I am a proud member of both SRA (D62) (an independent organisation that verifies that I make my own beads, British Lampworkers

If you have any questions, please message me and I'll be glad to help you.

Thank you for calling into my Etsy shop and taking the time to come and find out a little bit more! My name is Trudi and all the items in my Etsy shop have been lovingly hand crafted by me!

I’d like to think that my work is a reflection of me, colourful and wanting to make everyone happy! My aim is to make every experience with GlitteringprizeGlass exciting and give you anticipation to create!

Glass is my passion - I’m a full time glass artist, specialising in lampwork beads and small fused gifts. My philosophy is to treat others how I would like to be treated. With this in mind the way I achieve this is to

- Put as much information on each listing as I can and have good pictures … as you can’t pick up the pieces this is so important!
- Have clear terms and conditions here that way you know what to expect from me.
- Help you get what you want .Sometimes you may not find the exact item you are looking for (sometimes you might not know yourself) … I’m here to help. If you can’t find what you need, or need something changing a little – send me a convo with as much detail as you can (including what your project is) and I’ll do my best to come up with the best solution!
- Get your order out fast! No one likes to wait ages for an order right? .. I know that I’m like a kid waiting for Christmas once I’ve placed an order and wanting it to come. Some pieces are one offs while others are made to order (I do try to keep some stock, but as I offer such a large range of styles, colour and sizes it just isn’t possible). You can see the lead times on each listing, and I always have the orders made and sent out before that time! But don’t just take my word for it, please read my reviews

Beads that are made to order, you won't receive the exact ones in the picture, but the pictures are a good likeness for what you will receive.

In some cases it maybe possible to cancel your order. However if it has been made to order for you, it may not be possible. There may also be a small charge for administration depending on status of the order and re-stocking fees. These will be advised and agreed before any acceleration.
Please ensure that you have the correct address set up on Paypal and or Etsy as I use this to create the shiping label. Please also ensure that you have a confirmed address otherwise this could result in a delay shipping your order, or in some cases the order may need to be cancelled. Tracked and insured options are available. In the event of a lost package, I will refund the appropriate amount once the claim has been settled by Royal Mail -

Please note that in the case of larger claims Royal Mail's investigation can take upto 90 days.

Any duties or taxes applied to parcels sent overseas are the responsibility of the customer. Any charges from me are clearly displayed along with the shipping costs. However, if you are unclear please message me for clarification.
Refunds and Exchanges
In the first instance, if you have a problem, please contact me via Etsy and I will do my best to resolve your issue in a manner that is acceptable to both parties.

If you do not receive your order within 10 working days (UK) or 25 days (non UK) please notify me so that I can chase this up for you. Please ensure that I am notified no later than one calender month after posting (I send out posting notifications)

Any claims made, I will need to make agains my shipping company, unless stated this is Royal Mail. Before I can settle a claim to you, I first need to claim from them for missing / damaged items. Please note that in the case of larger claims Royal Mail's investigation can take upto 90 days.

To ensure a swift refund I would recommend using a tracked service to return items.

This does not affect your statutory rights.
Additional policies and FAQs
All transactions are subject to UK law, and sales are to private individuals and not for re-sale. Please handle items with suitable care and do not leave with small children.

If the bead hole size is not stated on the listing and you have a specific requirement, please contact me to discuss before ordering. Different size mandrels can be used - they are generally between 1.6mm and 2.4mm for standard beads.

Colours - as with most colour items (think paints or wallpaper for examples) batches of glass and frit etc can vary from time to time. If you need to be sure of an exact colour match for a project you are working on, it is best that you buy them in one purchase. From time to time, depending on availability of materials a substitution may be made ... if this effect the finished product in anyway I will contact you before shipping and if you are unhappy I will either re-make or refund your purchase.

Some glass can colour shift under different light sources (especially transparent purples), please be sure to check them under natural light.

Sizes given are approx, and as part of their charm & characteristics, may have slight variations! Wouldn't it be boring if everything was all the same!!

Currency . As I'm in the UK I sell in Pounds Sterling GBP, and all prices quoted will be in this format. If you need to see this converted into your own currency, the best site I have found is XE. Com (as rates constantly vary it may not be 100% but it is very close and should be used as a guideline).
