I live in Washington DC, a beautifully painted city with a really big sky.

What inspires me? Color combinations, textures, materials, and good music. Walking around the city, hearing different languages spoken at every corner, on the bus, visiting museums and art galleries, spending time with other artists, overhearing conversations, meeting new people, reading blogs about handmaking, talking whose work continually evolves, learning new ways of making things, and finding new ways of thinking about traditional handcrafts.

I started my knitted painting series because of my fascination with knitting and love for painting. I am also intrigued by the community I've found online with knitters from around the world. I think about how it links me to my mother, and her mother, and all the women that came before them. We are all connected somehow.

My illustrations and "One-Page Tales" are based on the silly things people tell their kids. They came about because of my love for children's books, but I loved the idea of having them featured on someone's wall, on a tee, or in their pocket on a notebook, rather than hidden on a bookshelf. And I’m quite obsessed with Moleskine notebooks, and so handprinting my stories and designs on them was quite a natural progression for me.
