Shopgibberish is a mother/daughter owned business and our little shop was born in January of 2009 when we had the idea of spelling things out with elements from the periodic table. It took us several weeks (and numerous attempts) before we got to a place where we thought it would be fun AND acceptable within the scientific community. The first geeky products we made were scrabble tile necklaces for all of the teachers in Julie's school science department. They were a hit and we knew we had something fun to offer the world, so we joined the ETSY community. Things took off pretty well, and before we knew it, we were steadily selling geeky products!

By the first holiday season, Jenavieve needed to step in and help and she gradually ended up becoming a valuable partner in crime. She has a strong art background and an eye for what looks best. In June of 2011, we were super fortunate to be chosen as the featured sellers on the front page of ETSY (http://www.etsy.com/storque/shop/featured-seller-shopgibberish-12818/?ref=fp_featured)

In the last year, we have been very busy and we can honestly say the vast majority of our ETSY time is just loads of fun. We laugh a lot, binge frequently on cable shows, are quite snarky on occasion, and we definitely have a small business attitude and philosophy that includes tremendous pride in the product we make. With detail being such an essential part of what we do, we strive to get it right every time (or fix it fast) and to continually work to promote our mutual passion for art and science!

Since we joined the ETSY family, we have met so many wonderful customers that are as passionate about science as we are. Shopgibberish has opened numerous doors for us in the science community, and we have taken great pride in having our items for sale in both the MIT gift shop and the Nobel Museum in Stockholm. We have also been featured in BUST and New Scientist magazines and have sold our geekiness at the American Chemical Society meetings, the California and National Science Teachers Association meetings and the Bay Area Maker Faire. We are committed to designing products that make us hard core science geeks smile, that knowing smile of delight, when they see something they just can't live without.

Who knows how geeky the future will get, but we will be ready with our scrabble tiles, our sewing machine, sandpaper and tape dispensers...and the occasional test tube.
