artist / designer / maker

An artist all my life, I studied painting & textile design in university and ultimately received Bachelor and Master degrees in graphic design. I've exhibited and sold my abstract paintings in the US and UK for nearly two decades. In 2015, whilst living in London, I began exploring other formats beyond the canvas, making small clay sculptures reflective of my paintings. These explorations lent themselves to be wearable and I started selling jewelry at some of London’s best-curated craft markets and independent boutiques. Shortly after I took a course at the London Jewellery School and launched my multidisciplinary art practice and business, GrayjayStudio.com.

I approach jewelry making as an artist, by making each of my hand-marbled metal or hand-sculpted & painted clay 'gems' one at a time, and so that each piece is a miniature, wearable work of art. I'm interested in creating beautiful things out of the combination of unassuming materials, my artistic sensibilities and lots of time. This approach has garnered me recognition including being commissioned by the Royal Academy of Arts museum shop to do a custom jewelry collection to coincide with their Abstract Expressionism exhibition and featured in Molly Makes magazine. Currently, you can find Grayjay jewelry stocked at the museum shop at The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art.

Recently relocated back to the US, I enjoy working from my studio at The Cherry Pit Collective, a communal studio space for women artists, makers, and creatives in the heart of Kansas City, MO.

P.S. After my move from the UK to the USA I encountered some backend tech problems for an Etsy shop started in one country and moved to another. Therefore I opened this new Etsy shop, which has resolved all issues. If you'd like to see my sales history and all 5-star reviews from my previous UK based Etsy shop, please visit www.etsy.com/shop/grayjaystudio

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

Yes, I'm happy to discuss custom orders and enjoy creating something just for you! I will keep communications open during the process including sending you images for approval before shipping.

Care instructions

Surfaces are painted on and protected with a varnish. Please store and wear with care by protecting them from scratching. Do not wash, as that may remove the varnish over time. Never expose to alcohols or acetones.

Wholesale availability

Yes, I'm happy to discuss wholesale opportunities at carefully curated shops!

Gift wrapping and packaging

Items are always neatly shipped with branded packaging. If you want yours gift wrapped too please add that option at check out.

International Shipping

Buyer is solely responsible for any customs taxes and fees that may occur. Amounts vary and are beyond my control, but my past experience estimates it's equal to 20% VAT plus £10 or so in fees.

Chains

The snake chains are plated copper and therefore will naturally tarnish with time and wear. If you prefer a solid sterling silver or 18k gold chain I'm more than happy to source one for you and will adjust the cost accordingly.
