Tareau is always striving to bring a sense of calmness to your life. To do this, I aim to increase your awareness of your surroundings: do you take notice of how the light changes throughout the day? Do you see the patterns at your feet as you walk in the sand, or smell the scent of a flower as you pass it on a walk? Bringing your awareness to each of these things takes you into the present moment, and in turn, reduces anxiety, depression, and induces a sense of calm and connection to the universe. Present moment awareness is something I practice every day and activating my sense of sight, smell, touch and sound in my surrounding environment has greatly assisted me on my journey. Ekhart Tolle says as you "honor the present moment, all unhappiness and struggle dissolve, and life begins to flow with joy and ease. When you act out the present-moment awareness, whatever you do becomes imbued with a sense of quality, care, and love - even the most simple action.” I've found this advice to be true - when I am fully sitting in the present moment, my worries slip away and I am filled with joy, gratitude and love.

The photography work I create and offer to you is an invitation to live in the present moment. They are pieces where I have stopped, breathed in the air, observed my surroundings and connected with a specific area of the land. You too can come into the present with a piece from Tareau. Hang a print in your room, at your alter, in your workspace, entryway, or anywhere you wish to be reminded that Now and Here is where you are.

I primarily shoot both colour and black and white film, using my Hasselblad. I like the simplicity and minimalism that film allows me while creating. With limited frames per roll, I'm required to be contemplative and patient, which zones me right into the moment - and there's no where else I'd rather be. As I hardly alter my photos, I love the result of film right off the negative. The purist in me loves the honesty I can deliver.

Occasionally, I set up my home darkroom to create black and white silver gelatin prints, which you’ll see in the shop under “Hello, Divine”. At one time I was printing more frequently and even had the opportunity to print images of Elvis Presley and David Bowie from a found roll of negatives a client brought to me! There is nothing more brilliant than a finished printed piece, a mystery is solved but more discovery is to be had. I love the tangible form of printing and the daily love that can be experienced from seeing the print form.

I've been showing my pieces in group and solo exhibitions in various galleries and spaces for the past five years in Toronto. I also helped manage a fine art photo gallery for two years here and learned endless amounts about print-making, collecting, creating editions and fine art etiquette. Everything I've learned and experienced thus far has brought me to this point. My dream is to connect with the earth, and capture it in a way where you may connect with it too. I sense you'll feel it in your heart and soul when an image resonates with you, and by hanging a print on your wall this can serve as a daily reminder of our magical existence. Tareau is you. Tareau is me.
