In addition to reclaimed woods, the new lumber we use for our frames is mostly poplar and alder, both species of trees are fast-growing and replenish themselves quickly. Also, our vintage finishes are created using high-grade water-based lacquers and either very low or zero V.O.C. paints.

About signedandnumbered
-
It all starts with raw wood... both old and new.
-
We plane it, mold it, sand it, nail it, putty it, and sand it some more to create lovely frames with finished corners
-
We build artisan frames, therefore we employ artisans. Painters, bakers, and musicians comprise our awesome team
-
Our signature finish is a multi-step, labor-intensive process, and the end result is a "glass smooth" surface
-
We are proud of running a handmade, 100% wind-powered business. We want to be around for many generations to come.
Wood Shop > Music Venue > Poster Gallery > Frame and Home Decor Shop
We started Signed & Numbered in 2008 as a poster shop and art gallery in our home town of Salt Lake City, Utah. My name is Phil Sherburne and my wife's name is Leia Bell. I am a carpenter by trade and Leia is an artist. The best one ever.
Somehow in my twenties my custom furniture shop morphed into a music venue called Kilby Court and that is where Leia and I met.
During the eight years that we managed Kilby Court we had also managed to collect three kids, a dog named Lucky and mountains of limited edition, Signed and Numbered posters, mostly of the shows we had promoted.
As you can guess, we then took our mountain of Signed and Numbered posters and started a poster shop/art gallery in the basement of a record store. Our dog Lucky was our logo.
We soon realized that the collectible posters we were selling seemed out of place in manufactured frames, so I started making handmade wooden frames for the handmade art we were selling in the gallery. It was a much better fit.
Now 12 years later we find ourselves passionate about frames. It sounds goofy, but we really like frames.

Returns and exchange details
We use real glass in our smaller frames. On frames over 11x14 inches we recommend plexiglass for safety and stability in shipping. Though glass breakage is rare, postal folks do tend to throw boxes around, so on occasion we will encounter a broken pane of glass. If your glass has broken during shipment, please contact us and we will send you a new pane of glass ASAP.
If you hear broken glass rattling around in your box, DO NOT OPEN the package. Simply write "DAMAGED - RETURN TO SENDER" on the box and give it back to your carrier. They will send the box back to us and we will replace whatever needs to be replaced and ship it back to you ASAP.
If you would like to make an exchange, we are happy to do this as well. Please keep your original packaging for returning your item(s), and write REFUSED and/or RETURN TO SENDER on the box so you are not charged for return shipping. If you have opened the packaging, you may be charged to ship the package back to us. If you are willing to cover the shipping back to us, we will reship the exchange item at our cost.
Make sure you contact us to make arrangements for your exchange so we can be on the lookout for your package.
Payment
Due to new online sales tax applications in several states, we are no longer able to accept checks or money orders as form of payment. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Frequently asked questions
STANDARD FRAME SIZES?
Q: My print measures 5" x 7". What size frame should I order?
A: The frame sizes listed in our shop refer to the opening on the back of the frame (the size the frame will HOLD).
The viewing area on the front of the frame will be slightly smaller to allow for the frame edge overlap.
If you want a frame built to an exact "viewing area" size, send us a message and we will create a custom listing for you or give you tips on the correct size to purchase.
If you need a frame that fits in a specific spot on a wall, you can let us know the "overall outside dimensions" you need.
For a standard 5x7" photo with a little bit of the edge covered all the way around, you should order a 5x7 frame.
MATTING?
Q: I would like a mat with my frame. Is this possible?
A: We can include a mat in the color of your choice. We have a lot of mat colors to choose from. For a list of mats we stock, please see this link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/626690044/add-a-mat-to-your-picture-frame-add-on
We include mats at no extra charge with the purchase of frames 11x14 and smaller. For larger mats or mat-only orders, please contact us for a price quote.
Q: Are your mats Archival quality?
A: We only use mats that conform to all conservation standards. They are fade and bleed resistant and are 100% acid free.
CUSTOM ORDERS?
Q: Can I order a custom-sized item, and what is the cost?
A: Yes, for sure! We can customize our sizes. When contacting us about a custom frame, it is helpful to come to us with the following information to streamline the process:
• The dimensions of your artwork
• Frame style and color desired
Please allow up to 24 hours for a reply and refrain from sending multiple messages as it backs up our inbox causing a more delayed response.
PRODUCTION TIME?
Q: How long does it take to receive my order once it is placed?
A: Once we receive payment, we begin construction of your frame order. All of our frames are built from scratch starting with raw wood, with the exception of frames in our ready-made SHIPS TODAY section: https://www.etsy.com/shop/signedandnumbered?ref=seller-platform-mcnav§ion_id=17273576
The process takes 10-14 business days (MONDAY - FRIDAY) from start to finish. We strive for quality over quantity.
Once your order ships you will receive an email with the package tracking information. If you need your order sooner or for a specific date, please contact us and let us know as soon as possible. We can usually accommodate you if you let us know what you need! (ᵔᴥᵔ)
FRAME PRICING?
Q: How are your frames priced?
A: We price our different frame stocks by the linear foot. Each style has a different price point per linear foot. Contact us if you need a special, larger size that you aren't seeing available in our shop and we will give you a complete price quote.
LARGER FRAMES?
Q: What is the largest frame size you can make?
A: We can build frames at any size- we have built 7-foot long frames before for local customers... BUT, because we are shipping frames on Etsy, we are limited to the sizes that can safely be shipped via USPS or UPS. We can build/ship frames up to 24 x 36 inches for our Etsy customers. On sizes larger than around 11 x 14 inches, we use gallery plexiglass instead of regular glass for safety in shipping.
BULK ORDERS?
Q: I am ordering more than one frame. Can I get a price discount?
A: We typically give price discounts on bulk orders of 10 or more frames. The discount is 10% off of the listed price. Since each frame is made by hand, regardless of how many are ordered, we cannot offer special discounts for only a couple of frames.
WHOLESALE?
Q: Do you offer wholesale discounts?
A: We currently don't offer wholesale although we do offer a 10% discount on orders of 10 or more items.
