About

Life is just better with animals around!

I've always felt a deep spiritual connection to animals. Painting is my way of deepening this very personal relationship. For me, nature has always been the gateway to spiritual and emotional peace and the animal world has been my vehicle. My relationship to the animal spirit is the driving force behind my work and my sole motivation.

In a world full of concrete jungles and trickery I can momentarily escape the madness into the wild and connect with nature. Animals for me have always been a safe haven—gentle spirits that are in tune to the spiritual frequency we all yearn for. When I look into the eyes of an animal, whether it’s a bird, squirrel, or elephant, I feel the universe, and know I am connected to something greater than I can comprehend. So, I paint the connections I feel, and strengthen the relationship I have found.

My hope is to bring the observer up close to these amazing souls through an interpretive approach using primarily watercolors. Less often I'll paint in oil paint with the same intentions but with a variation of stylistic approach. All of my paintings are created, however, in a manner that allows me to focus in on the particular relationship between the animal spirit and myself.

My approach with watercolors is interpretive in nature. Put differently, these paintings take into consideration my spiritual connection to the animal and references their spirit, not necessarily their true appearance. Created very loosely and spontaneously, they are brought to life fairly quickly with lots of movement and interpretation, keeping the paintings energetic and light. I generally work in several layers of washes which allows for smooth gradations and deep shadows. Splatters are also signature in my work. This technique is used for two important reasons. First, and most importantly, I find that the nature of splatters are symbolic of the soul and spirit I'm connecting with. That is to say that the animal spirit is not in complete form and tangible but rather elusive and abstract. Secondly, I find the innate expressiveness of the act itself, making splatters, emotionally liberating. In other words, it feels really good!

Less often, I'll paint in oils. In these paintings, I'll stay relatively true to the animal’s appearance. This approach continues to be spiritual in nature but is meant to highlight the beauty of the animal as it is without the possibility of becoming overwhelmed or distracted by intense color or abstraction.

I truly appreciate you stopping by. Don't forget to check out my shop and contact me with any questions. Thanks!

Frequently asked questions

What kind of paper are your fine art prints printed on?

All of my prints are printed using a fine art cold press matte paper with pigment-based UltraChrome HD ink. This paper is specifically picked for it's warm tone and texture that is an almost identical match to the paper used with the original paintings.

Canvas prints can be ordered upon request.

Return and Exchange Policies

If you are unhappy with your purchase, please contact me directly within 3 days of receipt of shipment, and I will do my best to remedy the situation.

How are prints packaged and shipped?

Your package ships from my studio in Holly Springs, North Carolina via USPS, First Class mail. I offer shipping upgrades at checkout.

All art is carefully packaged to ensure artwork is sufficiently protected during shipping. If you have any issues with your prints upon arrival, please convo me. 5x7, 8.5x11 and 11x14's are mailed in flat rigid mailers. 13x19 prints or larger are rolled in a mailing tube. This has been found to be the most economical and protective way of packaging to reduce chances of damage.

My purchase is a gift. Can you put a personal note in the package?

Absolutely. If your purchase is a gift, I can provide a personal note within the package. Please include what you would like written on the card in the "note to sellers" box upon checkout.
