About

Inspired by Nature & Science

Hi, I'm Michelle, and I'm the owner and operator of Silentcheesecake Designs.

One afternoon in 2005, I found a dead honey bee in my backyard and it was frozen in a natural life-like position. I wanted to preserve it and wax came to mind as a great preservation medium. I was inspired by my mother's collection of clear wax candles with fragile flowers.

It is a tedious process and it took me a few years to get just right, but the end results now are stunning and permanent. Nature and science have always been a source of inspiration for me and I wanted to create one of a kind jewelry to honor, adorn, admire and educate. I strive in providing unique and high quality designs that will last decades.

All specimens are ethically and legally sourced from entomologists, found deceased, biology specimens (meant as teaching aids), local markets, reputable taxidermists that acquire from pest-control waste, by-product, found, roadkill or natural death. All the flowers are real, dried and free of moisture. Many are taken from my own plants and others are from various dried-flower suppliers.

The specimens I use are ethically sourced. I do not kill any of the animals I use in my jewelry. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
