About

Silk & Art: A Love of Colour and Silk

I first began to paint on silk many years ago in 1999. My first escapades were very geometric mandalas, full of pencil lines and experimental energy. It didn't take long until my vibrant, highly colourful freehand mandalas emerged and took on a life of their own.

I developed my own style as I went, playing with different techniques using gold liner, salts and professional dyes, teaching myself step by step, letting my own personalised style come out to play.

And of course the next step was to explore the world of silk wearables - scarves, shawls, wraps and bright, fun ponchos.

My first website appeared back in 2004. It was very basic but got my work out there, visible, in front of larger numbers of people.

I began to delve into much more layering with the dyes, teaching myself batik and how to use the tjanting, the Indonesian batik wax tool, to create my designs.

I joined Etsy very tentatively at first, not quite knowing what to expect, but once I found my feet, I took off.

My shop is now full of rainbow coloured wearables and wonderful people from all over the world contact me via this store as well as my Silk & Art website to commission me to create their own personalised silks.

In the meantime I've created my own mandala oracle deck based on all my mandala silk paintings. These are available on this site.

I also offer silk painting tuition, both in person and soon also via Skype. I have a dvd in my shop too and will be adding a downloadable booklet, pdf file with detailed instructions on silk painting.

And for those of you who are doll lovers, my husband has joined the team with his gorgeous silk dolls sofas and armchairs. Check out the shop to see the amazing pieces he makes.

Thanks for stopping by. If you'd like to keep in touch, please visit my site and sign up for my newsletter. And if there's anything else you'd like to know about my silk art work, please just get in touch. Thanks.
