My name is Michael Johnson and the arts have always been important to me. Starting my freshmen year in college I made the jump from sculpture to metals and jewelry.

Over the years my work has changed and progressed. From the spring of 2005 to the fall of 2008 I took a break from metals that has effected my style and drive. Most of my work is divided between pre 2005 and post 2008 and will be labeled that way.

Metals to me are a very powerful and graceful medium. When placed on the human form it gains and gives more meaning to the person and the piece. For me the journey of the piece and wearer is an important mixture leading to the creation of an unique experience beyond my control.

Part of the pleasure of my work is knowing that my work is growing with people's lives in positive ways and creating a life of its own. If you ever buy one of my pieces I love to hear about the experiences it lives through.

A lot of my inspiration comes from my conflicting love of nature and wilderness with my inner city heart. I have spent of most of my life split between major urban centers like Chicago and Shanghai with time in the pristine wilderness in some of the most remote places in the world.
