My personal style of work comes in a multitude of expressions from explosive to quiet, a transition of minimal to bold, while reflecting the idea of balance. I feel that my jewelry can be described as sculptural art and when worn, it plays into the character and form of the person wearing it. Because of the materials and style of my work, it often challenges the stereotypes of Native American jewelry and art. I feel that it is important to continue to be inventive and creative, and to draw inspiration from my encompassing modern culture. This exploring is part of my “tradition” to be creative. I like the challenge and the controversy it brings, it makes me feel like I am doing something right. Contrary to preconceived beliefs, Indigenous peoples like myself watch the same presidential elections, eat the same fast food and are not in a fairy tale with Captain Hook. Therefore, I plan to carry on my traditional cultural beliefs of being innovative.
