My journey to here .......

I have been fortunate enough in that from my early years I was inspired by my parents to love nature and history - and to make things and to paint and draw. They instilled in me a love of wildlife and of the incredibly vulnerable and beautiful planet on which we all live. Weekends, when I was a child and growing up, were usually long walks in the countryside, along estuaries, on moorlands or in woods in the north west of England. We would walk miles with our dog, a picnic, binoculars and "the bird book". My 3D sculptures in my shop have been inspired by my love of birds fostered by my childhood and my upbringing.

My aim now in setting up this shop is to bring to you the most perfect gift - either for yourself or for someone special. My jewellery is unique and unusual and reflects a nature theme, as nature is close to my heart. I will endeavour to make the best piece of jewellery for you, so that you can feel that you are wearing something special and something that reflects who you are and what you believe in life. If you don't seem something in my shop that suits but would like to chat to me about a commission, then please feel free to do so and I will do my very best to provide a piece of art for you to wear.

I have always been inspired by natural surroundings - by sand, sea, mountains, woods, meadows and valleys. My creations reflect this, I feel fortunate enough to be able to work with silver and copper to express how I feel about nature.

Welcome to SilverWrenandOak.

You will find in my shop, that I make unique and one of a kind jewellery from fine silver (art silver clay), which is 99.9% pure silver. I also incorporate some sea tumbled pottery and sea tumbled glass and I work with copper and sterling silver too. My inspiration comes from the legacy of my upbringing, the area in which I was born on the west coast of Lancashire, in the north of England.

I construct my silver birds using a technique called hollow form where I shape the birds entirely freehand using wood powder clay, a very versatile material good for sculpting. The forms are then allowed to dry then coated with many layers of fine silver in the form of art silver clay. They are then kiln fired at a very high temperature. The inner wood clay form then burns away, leaving the silver form. Art silver clay was developed by Japanese scientists in the mid 1990s using reclaimed silver particles and a 'binder'. It is therefore an extremely versatile medium to work with.

As all my work is handmade, no two items are ever exactly the same. This means that my creations are something totally unique for you to own and wear.

All designs, logos, photographs and words are copyright of SilverWrenandOak.

Most of the silver jewellery I make using fine silver and copper, except where described differently, is hallmarked using my own personal makers mark, AR, at the Goldsmiths' Company Assay Office, Goldsmiths' Hall, London, UK.
