About

What does the word "becoming" mean to you?

What does the word "becoming" mean to you?

I am Sarah Markusich, the owner and jewelry designer of Simply Becoming Designs. I've always had very eclectic tastes, even from the time I was a little girl, with a variety of influences from the strong women in my life. Both of my grandmothers had very refined, even old Hollywood styles. My mom was an original hippie. I was a child of the colorful '80s and came into my own during the grunge movement of the '90s. Obviously, there were a lot of different things going on.

After the birth of my second child, the space in which I could pursue my creative endeavors was greatly (and I mean very greatly) reduced. At this time, I was also doing a bit of soul-searching, trying to figure out who I was and what my definition was as a person. Mom? Wife? Artist? Dancer? Woman? In other words, I was confused about what to do and where I was going. I didn't feel strong and I definitely didn't know what I was suppose to be. I felt like I was becoming... something, but I didn't know where I was headed. With my space restrictions, I realized that making jewelry could be a perfect creative outlet for me. When I would sit down to work with my hands, the back of my mind would have an opportunity to wander, to sort and organize all of my thoughts. Often I would wonder just what type of person I was becoming and where that would lead me.

Once I became confident enough in my work to share it with those closest to me and get their opinions on it, one of the first people to see it was my mom. I remember her exact words. She said that the pieces were "so becoming". When it came down to time to commit to starting a business, I had to decide on a name for it. I spent weeks going over possibilities and finally thought to myself that it should be more simple. That's when everything hit me all at once. It really is simple and that I had spent months becoming, would spend the rest of my life evolving and becoming, and that what I was making was becoming. Thus, Simply Becoming Designs was born, with all of the multiple means that all those words entail. After all, quite simply, we are all becoming.

Simply Becoming creates necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings, and more. I look forward to providing you with beautiful items that you can wear for years to come. I love when someone connects so much with a piece that they feel it "speaks" to them.

Shipping
Shipping will be via First Class Mail with delivery confirmation. If you want insurance, please convo me *before* completing your purchase so I can tell you how much it will add to your final cost.

All packages will be shipped out within one week of purchase. Items will not be considered "lost" until 20 days after I send it out.

International buyers: I do ship internationally and I offer international shipping rates via airmail first class. Because intl. first class is not insured (and I can not be held liable for lost or stolen packages), please inquire before placing your order if you would like your package insured. Insurance is usually an additional $12-15.00. Purchases subtotaling $200 or more must be sent Priority Mail with insurance, so if you're outside the States and this applies to you, I'll have to invoice you for the rest of the postage, or we can add it to the listing.

Most of you that regularly buy from out-of-country are familiar with the occasional customs fee, but there are still those to whom this is a surprise. Please know that this is always a possibility when ordering from outside your country. All packages will be marked as merchandise.
