It Started Out as a DIY Wedding . . .
I was that bride who hated every plain, boring, mass-produced thing that popular vendors were offering to brides everywhere. I mean, this was MY wedding. It couldn't be special if it looked like every other wedding out there, right?
After a few Google searches, I made a trip to the craft store and came home with a few basic paper crafting supplies. Three months later, I was marrying my best friend and we celebrated with friends and family, all surrounded by my handmade wedding paper suite.
At that point, I was hooked. I made a small collection of cards over the next few months. I opened my small Etsy shop named Simply Inviting Cards. From there, my paper addiction grew into an obsession.
Before I knew it, I was amassing mounds of paper scraps. I felt horribly guilty about tossing them into the garbage, so once again I hopped on Google, looking for ways to reuse those scraps. It seems Google has an answer to many of my crafting endeavors, showing me at-home papermaking kits left and right.
Discovering handmade recycled paper was a blessing! Not only could I make the things I wanted, but I could make a supply that inspired others to create.
It wasn't long before my handmade paper sales overtook all my other items. Though I enjoyed making greeting cards, it seemed that a name specific to greeting cards didn't reflect my growing paper enthusiasm. A name change was definitely needed, but Etsy itself was working on many new features, so I had to be content to sit and wait for a little while.
Months later, Etsy rolled out its shop name change feature and I couldn't be more ecstatic! Then the hard part of choosing a name began. After closely examining my own values, inspiration and need to be a 'greener' crafter, I brainstormed a list of words and phrases that felt near and dear to the soul of my shop.
I finally settled on two very lovely Latin words - Terra (meaning "Earth') and Bellus (meaning 'Beautiful'). Finally. It felt just right for me and my shop.
While my creative journey, once rooted in greeting cards, continues to evolve and unfold, one thing remains the same - not a single scrap of paper will go to waste in my shop!
