Humble Beginnings

“Making things by hand is how I say I love you to the world.”
- Steve Barnett, Owner & Craftsmith, Sine Cera)

At a very young age, my father carved me a wooden broadsword to run around the back yard pretending to be Rob Roy. Since then my knack for crafting imaginative wood creations became a way of life. Growing up, my resourcefulness came by way of necessity. I had to find creative ways to complete school projects because I didn’t have money for Michael’s trips and I gifted handmade crafts because I didn’t have disposable income. In high school I was assigned a 3-D mapping project of the United States. I grabbed a sheet of 1/2" redwood, cut it out with a bandsaw, and chiseled the geography into it. That same year during Christmas, I cut out wooden tree ornaments for family and friends in their South Park likenesses. The next year it was comic book characters.

Years later in college, I joined the set building department at Cal State Northridge. That’s when I found my calling as a creative woodworking artist. My self-sufficient ways came full circle the following Christmas when I carved my friends flasks for their presents. After many an outcry of "WHY DONT YOU SELL THESE, YOU IDIOT?!”, I finally opened shop.

Now, my mission for creating is two-fold:

To provide one-of-a-kind conversation pieces that forge deeper connections with yourself, others, and the environment & to lead by example for a better world.

Favorite Materials: Repurposed lumber, Walnut, plywood
Inspiration: FireFly, Sci-Fi, upcycling

Owner, Maker, Designer, Curator, Nerd With Carving Tools

The strangest nerd you will ever know. I love all things comic, sci-fi, noir, and cult. On top of that I grew up swinging an axe for a living and now I carry a rifle and a med-bag on the battlefield. Never enough reason to stop carving. Ever.

I decided my usual hand carvings aren’t for everyone, so I partnered with Made by Cooper to expand my operation into a new medium. Find out more at https://www.madebycooper.co.uk/

Welcome to SineCera Carpentry. SineCera comes from the Greek for "without wax" which was stamped on furniture that didn't require wax to fill in cracks or bad joints, guaranteeing "sincerity" to the product. Point of interest, it also means "Steve"

I am currently serving in the United States Navy as a Marine Corpsman, so my days are already 16 hours long. However, this is what I truly love to do, so I'll still do it! Please note I have very little free time and will get your purchases to you within two weeks.
