Biography

One of my mother's girlfriends was a potter. My earliest memory of trying to throw a pot on the wheel was around age 11 at her studio. I got hooked right then. I took Ceramics lessons in High School as well as private throwing lessons before I went to college.
I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts with a major in Ceramics at the Royal Academy for Art and Design in 's-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, in 1987. For the next ten years I worked and made my living as a studio artist with regular shows. I also taught Ceramics classes to children and adults.
I moved to the USA in 1997. The move was financed by selling all my artwork and studio equipment. I married and built a new life in the US, but It would take 20 years before I touched clay again.
Fast forward to 2017:
I am now getting back into my art at my leisure and couldn't be happier. My work is hand thrown or hand built, or a combination of both. The decorations are painstakingly carved by hand, which takes a long time. It is like a meditation for me. I am always fascinated by texture and color, by their contrast, inspired by landscape, the weather, the ocean, nature.
I feel lucky to have unearthed my talent again (pun intended), and I hope others will feel the same way as they get to know my work.
