About

Come full circle with Sir Tom.

Making things has always been my way. I get lost in the process and smile when I reach the end, thinking, 'what will I create next?'.

All my designs start with a simple inspiration, such as native flora or folk art. I spend plenty of time sketching until I am happy with how the idea is evolving. I then scan my drawings into Illustrator and Photoshop, and start arranging all the elements into a cohesive pattern or layout.

Choosing colours can be overwhelming as there are so many beautiful shades to consider, but once I settle on a palette, the fun begins. I can spend days on the computer working on one piece of art, depending on the complexity of the design and the amount of colours, and I love it!

Once the design is finished it is time to print to fabric. I use a range of printing techniques, from digital to screen printing to block printing. It's great to pry myself away from the computer and race into the studio where I can get my hands dirty!

I expose my own silk screens and then hand print straight to yardage. There is nothing more satisfying than pulling ink across the screen then lifting it up to reveal the textile design. Carving my own blocks for fabric printing has also been a joy, for its simplicity and rustic charm.

Many years ago, a few good friends pitched in to purchase a second hand industrial Singer sewing machine for me! Not long after that, my dear mother gave me her 1957 Singer sewing machine. I have added an over locker to the list and am happily equipped for all sewing projects, big or small.

Being able to sew seems to be a skill in decline. I find sewing to be not only fun, but essential to completing my design process independently, to come full circle, creating a finished product using my original textiles. Thank goodness my mum taught me how to sew when I was so young.

I knew I majored in Photography at Art School for something...for product shots of all my Etsy items:) While it takes time to compose each and every shot, I enjoy working out the ideal angles and exposures to let the subject matter shine.

Making things...it's just what I do, and it's worth every single minute. Thanks to my loyal family, friends and customers for all your love and support over the years, I greatly appreciate it. Anne.x
