I paint on glass.I call them glass canvases to create three dimensional paintings by painting on both surfaces, front and back, “Forward and Reverse”.

My new body of work is called “Assemblage” incorporating wonderful found objects and treasures into pieces. Photos of my work make it hard to illustrate the real nature and vibrancy, as with all art, to really be appreciated you must see it in person. The universal response to my work is, “It is so much better than in the pictures”, and the work is “happy”. However, all of my sales are completely returnable should you disagree.

My technique is to paint many layers on the front and on the back of a piece of glass. Using techniques like “Scrafito”, I build on both surfaces. In so doing I create depth and perspective in unconventional ways making the work slightly three dimensional. The pieces have a very contemporary aspect because they are glossy and are on glass. They also have a warmth to them because of the painted wooden frames and other found objects often incorporated. My style can transcend almost any decor.

As a military spouse, I have lived in a beautiful traditional historic home on a Navy base, beautiful new suburban homes in Georgia, a historic mid-century modern home in the Oregon Cascades, and a 180 year old farm house in Maine. In each setting the work was exciting in context. I believe it is because I use traditional color combinations and motifs as tools: black and white, blue and white, red white and blue. These colors in subjects like china, borders on frames, or even in American flags allow the work to transcend many styles. My ideas, textures, and accents make my folk art pieces exciting and dynamic to decorate with.

I was sitting in a dental chair in Montgomery Alabama on the eve of my 40th birthday. I hated that dentist. My inner voice was screaming, "NO NO NO!" I decided not to turn 40 still ignoring that voice. So, I left. I went home and started painting.
