Skeleton Ladies started a few years ago when I was still an undergraduate at UT. It was sort of a mess, honestly, and I had no clue what I was doing or what my product should be. I was obsessed with Day of the Dead imagery because I'd been included in the holiday festivities by family friends growing up, hence the name "Skeleton Ladies", but as much as I loved it, it didn't feel like it was going to last. After a lot of thought, I let the shop fall into disuse and sort of forgot about it for a while. It wasn't until I graduated that I began thinking about revamping it and putting in new product. That's how this iteration of Skeleton Ladies was born.
Being a printmaker, I love working with paper. Heck, it goes beyond just being a printmaker. Since I was young, I loved stationary and journals and stickers, plus any kind of fancy paper I could draw or paint on. Walking into a paper store at twenty-three makes me just as giddy as it did when I was fifteen or seven. So, I started there. Using my education in art, I dyed my own paper and bound my own books, cut my own patterns and designed my own stickers. There's still a lot of work to be done and a lot of things to learn, but I've loved every moment of running this little shop. It's even made some appearances in local art markets and stores, and I'm excited to do more this coming year. I'm beyond relieved to have picked Skeleton Ladies back up and given it a new face.
