Received my awesome gnome coasters today and they're delightful! Julia did a great job on these, and I know they'll be a big hit with the folks I'm giving them to for Christmas. This seller is very professional -- when she knew that my order would be delayed, she contacted me to let me know, and she also re-did them so that they would meet her standards for workmanship, which is much appreciated. Packaging was secure and the price was right! Very happy with my purchase!

About

Like many toddlers, I began with drawing and coloring, and trying to emulate my creative older sister. Around age 10, my dad bought me wood carving tools, and I started carving onto scraps of wood. I then moved onto pastels and charcoals. In high school, I did a lot of pen and pencil drawings, often in the notebook margins to keep myself occupied during class. I started painting with oils and acrylics in college, and that continues to be my primary medium to this day. I like to use bright colors, and etch into layers of wet paint, as well as rub away layers with cloth. In the last few years, I have been enjoying creating mixed media collages.

Much of my art utilizes recycled materials, such as the wood I use for paintings and the ceramic tiles that become coasters and magnets. Most of my collage materials have also lived other lives; they consist of pages from catalogs and old encyclopedias, art remnants, random found objects, and gold candy wrappers, as well as vintage lace and fabrics. I love to explore thrift shops and comb estate sales, unearthing and rescuing the tactile treasures that will add interest or texture to a piece.

I have come to terms with the fact that I am a messy artist. My hands are often covered with paint and/or glue, much as they were in my childhood. In my basement studio, I turn up the music and paint, scribble, etch, glue, cut and draw. For me, nothing beats the feeling of getting into that creative zone and letting that take the reigns.

Thanks for reading and taking a look.
