About SkinnyPigDesigns
Transforming a hobby into a dream...
When I was a little girl, my parents gave me a box of plastic pony beads and some elastic for me to play around with. Little did they know that this was one of the biggest defining moments for me in my life, for it helped me to discover one of my greatest passions...jewelry making. At first, I made simple friendship bracelets but over the years, I continued to bead and eventually went crazy over seed bead jewelry and charms. My mother taught me how to make daisy chain bracelets and when I made and wore one to school, several other girls in my class went crazy over them and bought several from me. At that time, I thought that it was the greatest thing in the world to be able to sell my bracelets to others for $5 each :D
I eventually went off to college and forgot about making jewelry since I always thought that it was just a hobby and by then, I was supposed to be busy concentrating on school. Those four years at my university were filled with a lot of frustration and confusion because I was always surrounded by so many passionate and creative people and I always felt lost because I thought that I had no creativity or talent myself. It was actually by chance several years later that I realized that jewelry making was my own special creative outlet and it was only my misunderstanding of it being just a frivolous hobby that kept it only just that. One day, I went crazy and spent waaaay to much money in a bead shop and I started to panic a little bit, trying to think of ways that I'll be able to pay for the bill when it comes. That's when I thought about selling some of my jewelry on Etsy. Instead of just paying for that bill, a whole dream was born which led to many many hours of researching and developing my business skills as well as my creativity. I am now so happy to say that Skinny Pig Designs is one of the things in my life that I am most proud of!
I currently sell jewelry here on Etsy as well as at local craft fairs and markets. People often tell me that they love the name and when they ask me for the reasoning behind it, I honestly tell them that there's no real reason, I simply liked how Skinny Pig Designs sounded :)
Using glass, crystals, sea shells, stones, and metals, I love making dainty, feminine jewelry that is inspired by my beautiful life here in Hawaii. I especially love discovering something that may seem a bit rough at first and then transforming it into a sparkling piece of jewelry.
I love the way that jewelry making has allowed me a way to giving other people joy when they are wearing my creations. Each piece is completely handmade with lots of love and care. I especially delight in making custom items since it allows me to make something completely unique but based on the personality of the person who will be wearing it.
