PHENOMENAL! My best Etsy cufflink purchase thus far. These are custom handmade cufflinks with a unique post weld that is very sturdy. The colors really pop and the details present an even symmetry. I received a surprise delivery upgrade, my cufflinks were packaged extremely well with site information and the most impressive touch is a handwritten note I received, describing the care in crafting them and thanking me for my purchase. I would definitely purchase from this merchant again.

Still life photo I took featuring my lotus book and lotus mask. I personally use and love this book... the leather is soft, has a golden sheen and I can roll it up and stick it in my purse blush

About

Welcome to our shop! Where my husband and myself (Amy) created custom leather and metal pieces in our small studio.

We are Amy and Tanner Skrocki of Paragon of Design by Skrocki.
We are award winning wearable artists that make historical and fantasy based works of wearable art, masks, jewelry, accessories, journals, clothing, guitar straps and home decor.

We design and make wearable, functional and collectible artwork from: metal, leather, wood and paper. The design studio was established in 2008 and we have extensively toured in Western Canada at various art shows, cons, festivals and markets. All of our pieces are designed and made in our Alberta, Canada studio. Please check out our website and blog for how we make things and our inspirations.

The following are some processes behind some of our most popular items we thought you might be interested to check out. Each of our listings includes a detailed process overview.

How we make our pieces: Jewellery
Each metal component, made in our Alberta, Canada, studio, is the product of a rigorous 35-45 step process (around 35 per earring or pendant and between 40 and 45 per ring or cuff link). Starting with plain sheets of metal we design and create our components one at a time. Some of the key steps include preparing the metal and design work, etching the imagery and cutting custom shapes. Shaping is done with a manual hydraulic press (2000 lbs plus per component) to create stronger, more durable, and professionally shaped components. Each piece is finished with a meticulous hand applied coloring process wherein each color is individually applied, typically on different days, to allow for the lengthy drying process (up to 72 hours). The majority of the other steps revolve around an absurd amount of sanding and cleaning, as well as, adding the finishing touches such as ear hooks, jump rings, soldering etc. Because of this no two items are identical and they have variations between each item (even within a set – which makes them twice as lovable because they are each unique ;). The real colors may slightly differ from their appearance on your display. They are often much more beautiful in person! ☺

Books: Hand Carved Series
Each book in this series is meticulously hand carved, hand dyed, hand finished and hand bound. Each image carved onto these books is an original created from our inspirations, which include: fantasy, travelling to ancient ruins, history and mythology. Some of these books are also hand painted with special leather paints and overlays. The leather used is an ethically sourced tooling hide that softens in over time. All of the leather used for these books is vegetable tanned and is a byproduct of the food industry. The acid free wheat straw pages are great for: writing, drawing, sketching, pen, pencil, etc. The classic bind used on these books gives an elegant old-world finish and allows the user or local book-binding clubs to easily rebind the book with any type of paper. The dyes used are an environmentally friendly water based dye which leaves a rich hand-finished touch on each book bringing out the unique highlights, grains, and character of each piece of leather*. We use a variety of different, hand applied, finishes to both protect and emphasize the leathers natural beauty. Finishes may include, but are not limited to, any or all of the following depending on the piece: high quality oils, waxes, gums, and protective coats. Each book is hand buffed once the finishes have set to give it a resilient sheen.
We also make many leather books, and other items, which feature our imagery etched onto beautiful pre-finished leathers (ex: distressed/antiqued Italian leather.) (note: any on sale antique leather books will have darker leather, the lighter leather is for full priced journals).

Masks:
All of the masks we create are meticulously hand sculpted, hand dyed / hand painted and hand finished. Often our masks also feature hand carved highlights as well. Each of our masks is an original design. The leather used is an ethically sourced tooling hide that wears nicely over time. All of the leather used to create our masks is vegetable tanned and is a byproduct of the food industry. The dyes used are an environmentally friendly water based dye which leaves a rich hand-finished touch on each mask bringing out the unique highlights, grains, and character of each piece of leather*. A number of our designs also include special stone, crystal, or glass cabochons in custom leather bezels stitched onto the piece. In addition to the cabochons some of our pieces feature hand beaded highlights to create further depth and beauty. Many of the masks also feature hand painting which is done with a variety of acrylic paints specially created for leather applications. All of our masks are hand dyed (black) on the inside and finished with a special non-toxic coating which can be wore directly against the skin and is easy to maintain. We use a variety of different, hand applied, finishes to both protect and emphasize the leathers natural beauty.

I started making, designing and selling pieces when I was 6 years old through my parents store. They were simple leather keychains, bracelets and necklaces and from that I started making metal, leather, wood, paper and acrylic items of all kinds.

Frequently asked questions

Custom and personalized orders

They are welcome! Many items can be customized and most of the leather work can have your initials or personalized messages added to them. Please contact us before ordering if you would like something customized.
If you want an entirely new item created in our style please contact us.
Any customized or personalized orders can not be refunded or exchanged.

Sizing details

Our wide metal ring bands fit differently than normal rings (due to how wide the band is). We suggested getting .5 or a full size up from your regular size. If you want to get your regular size you can open the ring band a bit (we make them adjustable) so you can take it on and off easily.

Care instructions

All items come with care cards. If you have any questions please feel free to email us.

Wholesale availability

Yes we do wholesale. Please contact us.
We can also do something entirely new for your store, add your logo to the leather items and make custom tags just for you. Just about everything we do can be mixed and matched.

Why is my item slightly different than the one in the picture?

This is probably due to different angle of the item when the picture was taken or because the item had to be remade specially for you. Each piece is individually created. Because we do not do any casts or molds no two pieces can be created identically. The lines may be imperfect due to a matter of process which is all part of the fun of owning unique handcrafted pieces. Also, it is more likely to have pieces with slightly crooked lines than one with out. Well we strive to get our components to as close to perfect as possible but the reality is: every component is created individually and have it’s own unique characteristics.
